Just rereading lol. Planning a trip to UK Dec 2023. For me to maintain platinum I would need DSC and a couple of runs to New Zealand or one of the amazing built runs form that thread about status runs.
It would take me a bit closer to the 14000.
One thing to consider is whether it makes sense to earn Platinum for this program year or next. Remember, status credits will roll over for next program year. In addition, there are some other techniques one can use to "manufacture" World Platinum status such as qualifying for QF Green (to earn 50 status credits), which depending on when you redeem the bonus can result in you earning 100 status credits from the program in one program year. In addition, there is the QF loyalty bonus after every 500 base status credits earned with QF/JQ which is another 50 status credit bonus there. Then of course there is the double status credit promotion which I reckon will occur in March or April next year.
In terms of crazy status credit runs, the US historically was a great place to do those since one could earn 200 status credits each way flying LAX to SFO (via DFW) in business on American. HNL to anywhere in the US can also be a rich source of status credits in J be it on American or Alaskan too.
Really am dithering about it. I have thought once I have achieved (?) LTG I would more than likely ditch Qantas and move to anorher Oneworld carrier for a variety of reasons not the least of price
Or alternatively fly another alliance to earn lifetime status there so that you have the latitude to fly any airline you darn well want and enjoy status. I bring to your attention the fact that Air France
awards lifetime top tier status in their frequent flyer program after 10 consecutive years of earning top tier status with them.
Well I did my first domestic QF flight today since achieving LTG. Together with a number of other QFi flights as WP/LTG I can say, I actually feel the experience has been worse. I would like to think this is just post-pandemic form by QF so I'll continue to see how it transpires over the next year or two..
Well now that you've got LTG you are now a free agent! Feel free to fly with other airlines like Virgin or Delta, United or Singapore, perhaps even aiming for lifetime status there. Remember, there is now 0 pressure for you to have to fly with Qantas or any OneWorld partner since you'll have those elite benefits for life.
I suppose domestically there is very limited choices under the one world umbrella.
That's something I've discovered too! I got an AmEx offer for booking American flights but when I search the American site for flights within Australia it returns 0 results.
For me my travel is almost exclusively international
And that's where the perks of having status can really shine with the extra baggage allowance, first class lounges and long haul upgrades. It also makes earning status trivial, particularly if you've got a clever routing that maximizes status credit accrual.
