Lifetime Gold or not ?

Status

Just rereading lol. Planning a trip to UK Dec 2023. For me to maintain platinum I would need DSC and a couple of runs to New Zealand or one of the amazing built runs form that thread about status runs.
It would take me a bit closer to the 14000.
Really am dithering about it. I have thought once I have achieved (?) LTG I would more than likely ditch Qantas and move to anorher Oneworld carrier for a variety of reasons not the least of price

Well I did my first domestic QF flight today since achieving LTG. Together with a number of other QFi flights as WP/LTG I can say, I actually feel the experience has been worse. I would like to think this is just post-pandemic form by QF so I'll continue to see how it transpires over the next year or two..

I suppose domestically there is very limited choices under the one world umbrella. For me my travel is almost exclusively international

Experience is "worse" - in what way?

if you're WP then LTG is irrelevant.

One thing to consider is whether it makes sense to earn Platinum for this program year or next. Remember, status credits will roll over for next program year. In addition, there are some other techniques one can use to "manufacture" World Platinum status such as qualifying for QF Green (to earn 50 status credits), which depending on when you redeem the bonus can result in you earning 100 status credits from the program in one program year. In addition, there is the QF loyalty bonus after every 500 base status credits earned with QF/JQ which is another 50 status credit bonus there. Then of course there is the double status credit promotion which I reckon will occur in March or April next year.

In terms of crazy status credit runs, the US historically was a great place to do those since one could earn 200 status credits each way flying LAX to SFO (via DFW) in business on American. HNL to anywhere in the US can also be a rich source of status credits in J be it on American or Alaskan too.

Or alternatively fly another alliance to earn lifetime status there so that you have the latitude to fly any airline you darn well want and enjoy status. I bring to your attention the fact that Air France awards lifetime top tier status in their frequent flyer program after 10 consecutive years of earning top tier status with them.

Well now that you've got LTG you are now a free agent! Feel free to fly with other airlines like Virgin or Delta, United or Singapore, perhaps even aiming for lifetime status there. Remember, there is now 0 pressure for you to have to fly with Qantas or any OneWorld partner since you'll have those elite benefits for life.
I suppose domestically there is very limited choices under the one world umbrella.
That's something I've discovered too! I got an AmEx offer for booking American flights but when I search the American site for flights within Australia it returns 0 results.
For me my travel is almost exclusively international
And that's where the perks of having status can really shine with the extra baggage allowance, first class lounges and long haul upgrades. It also makes earning status trivial, particularly if you've got a clever routing that maximizes status credit accrual.

So why bother with Lifetime Gold? I do not understand why someone would strive to achieve a status and then not use that status?

I'm nearly 60 years old and can already see significantly less use for Lifetime Gold based on current airfare pricing.

The purpose of earning lifetime status long term is to give you the option to use your frequent flyer benefits without being forced to always book a flight with Qantas or another OneWorld airline. In effect what this means is chasing another alliance (i.e. SkyTeam or Star Alliance) where fares might be cheaper and status can be earned relatively easily. In that way you can pick and choose whatever flight works best based on price, schedule, etc., not having to worry about what consequence it has on status accrual.

For example JAL currently has some excellent priced fares. They are Oneworld. I get to use the extra baggage and nice check in :)
Also cause I want to lol
I realise there is no special champagne, or acknowledgment however travelling and "playing the game" for me is fun. I try to work out status credits to accure
I believe it is my vice perhaps :)
I don't drink (yes sacrilegious on AFF LOL ) , rarely gamble..however I love to plan holidays and to travel :)

I don't disagree.

I'm already at that stage. Lifetime Gold but I'm booking travel on SQ as that maintains Velocity status but mainly due to Qantas ridiculous economy airfares and I can understand why @mrsterryn would go other carriers as they travel premium and there's significant difference on other carriers over Qantas.

If TG airfates came in cheaper would I sacrifice Qantas Lifetime Gold benefits or maintaining Velocity Gold?

Boy that's a tough one. They've got the vice grips on us and they know it.

I don't know where you get "World" Platinum from. As has been noted before.. when we use the moniker WP, the W rhymes with Banker..
