Lifetime Membership

However, compared with having 30kgs (or one extra luggage if you're travelling to US), no check-in queue, lounge club and baggage prioritizing (ie: less chance of baggage loss) VERSUS having to fight over extra allowance because I am not a student, waiting 1.5 hrs at Melb Airport for both check in and customs, obviously I'd prefer having QF club.

Maybe the system didn't like me last week.

Friday 14th Jan we flew from MEL to PTH on QF 485. We arrived for checkin 2.5 hours before flight time and waited 40 minutes in the priority queue. (imagine how long the normal lines were)

QP breakfast was well worth the wait though.

On arrival in PTH we were immediately called to the baggage desk to be informed that my wife's baggage had missed the flight. -- It was delivered to where we were staying about 5 hours later.

Priority baggage tags does not reduce the risk of lost bags. It just means that of the bag did make it into your flight, it will hopefully come out on the belt first. This really depends on where you are flying from and to. Some ports honour the priority tags, other do not.

How true. Last night I returned from PTH to MEL on the Red eye and my "priority" bags were last and fourth last to appear :!:

How unfortunate....

I hope it's an exception rather than a trend.

But really though... with what we have heard and experienced so far, the question is would you be prepared to pay $2,700 for a lifetime membership?

I think I would... :) but not now...

So do I :!:

Like others have said it really depends upon your projected flying habits. If you are able to fly enough to get and maintain Gold FF status then you have no need for your life membership. However if this is not possible then purchasing membership is the only option.

Good luck that you are able to salary sacrifice life membership as the best I've seen is annual membership which of course only works as long as you are working for the company in question. :D

When I get to within $2700 worth of travel to complete Lifetime Gold FF status, I think I will jump at the opportunity. But for now I am probably more like $27,000 of Lifetime Gold (3 DONE4's should do it for a little below that value, maybe I could squeeze it into 2 DONE4's after May for more like $18K of travel).

I'll take the benefits that come with Plat and Gold FF status over those that come with QP membership for as long as I can maintain the status. I'll pay year-by-year to retain the status for now.

Im able to get a membership through the Australian Computer Society for $285 a year.

The Australian Computer Society Membership rates for Qantas Club Lounge are $285 for one year or $500 for two years. They offer members corporate rates for car hire, and various other benefits.

Slightly off topic...
My QC club m'ship expired in 2003, but as I do not have a separate FF card, I gave it to the Economy check-in at both Sudney and Adelaide this week. At both counters, they tagged my baggage as "priority". I did not push my luck to enter the QC (and I did not have much time) this time!

Also of topic.

Telstra rates are AU$297 for three years QC membership.

I think it was $205 for 2 years.

Daniel

Do you mean $410 for 2 years?

Silly question I am sure, but dont suppose you can get those rates by being Telstra customer?

Hi Daniel,
How do we avail of the Telstra rates?
Cheers,
Ric

Well there are a few ways to get this rate.

1. Be a Telstra employee
2. Be a contractor to Telstra in some way

You need a Telstra email address and the Qantas Telstra reference code.

Then call up Qantas and ask them for the QC forms and they will send it to you and just fill it out.

Daniel

hi Daniel,

you wouldn't happen to know the reference code? if yes, could you post it or send it to me via private msg?

thanx

ioki

Sorry, I don't have it anymore. I used the codes a year ago and I don't have emails from that long ago.

You might be able to convince Qantas to email it to you but they might want to email your Telstra account to be sure.

Regards
Daniel

perhaps the privilge has been lost between Telstra and Qantas because i did take a look on Telstra's intranet site for employee benefits and i can't locate anywhere on the site

Now wouldn't this be good if it was available for Telstra Share holders?

Well I just hope to extend it for the same price. I'm in my second year of three.

Regards
Daniel

One has to ask the question,

is it the life of the person or the life of the airline?
