I was just checking my QFF account online and realised that I'm now only 620 SC's short of 7000 which I believe gives me lifetime silver?this is the first time I have achieved lifetime anything with any FF program and was wondering whether there is any real benefit to having it,I mean is it worth doing a status run to achieve it sooner rather than later,I'm getting married in the UK in late April and have booked return seats SYD-LHR but unfortunately they are only in Y so that's only 240 SC's earned there.
Is lifetime silver anything to get excited about?.
Cheers

Hi,

As you are already PS you will gain nothing from this milestone.

It will only be useful when you stop flying often and would have dropped to NB.

Depends ... do you currently have Qantas club access? Or Silver status? The Silver benefits are much the same as Qantas Club members, without the lounge access.
Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Silver Benefits

I am presuming that Lifetime Silver benefits are exactly the same as Silver benefits, but that you're qualified for life, rather than needing to re-qualify every year.

The real benefit is that you will NOT have to check in at the Economy Counter anymore for the rest of your life irrespective of what class you travel in.

I have noticed at some domestic check in counters there is no reference to Silver/Ruby check in and most say Plat/Business and Gold/QC check.

International I've noticed Plat/First and Gold/Biz and Silver/Y+ checkin....

I wouldn't hold your breath for lifetime business check in under silver....

That's the biggest plus by far. Although some mornings the queue in some airports is longer for non Y. That's TSV though, very early.

I just cracked 5000 lifetime SCs and it's now on the horizon but it's taken a very long time to get this far and without a lot of international J travel I'm not likely to make LTG for ten years or so.

If you have status already , then there is no benefit to it at all. On attaining LTS/LTG , QFF will send a 1 page letter to confirm that you have attained lifetime status, that is all.

When the LT Silver becomes active then they will send you a Lifetime Silver card with no expiry date on it

It is a published oneworld benefit, so I would still use the "Business" check-in desk - oneworld - oneworld Tier Status
Business Class priority check-in

Some airlines (*cough* BA *cough*, but there are others too) are particularly bad at now showing what rights OWR members have.

Do you get the free lounge pass every year when LTS? Or do you never get it ever again?

Thanks to everyone for the replies so far, looks like I'll just wait for it to happen, doesn't seem to be something that I should get overly excited about,I've got much more important things to worry about anyway, like a wedding, lol.

It’d be cool to have it, even with it’s limited benefits, just in the US it would give you priority boarding for example, which I hear is really useful.

Lifetime check-in at business counters isn’t something to be balked at either, and I guess achieving it means you’re halfway to LTG, which is what you really want.

I remember seeing a LTG card example posted somewhere before, possibly from serfty.

Do they send replacement cards every few years, accounting for wear and tear of the card, or just expect you to cough up for a new card if the old one is damaged?

As was mentioned on a PS vs. QP thread a month or two ago, Ruby is probably the greatest benefit in the US. Priority lines make the most difference but possibly more important is you would forever get a free checked piece of luggage with LTS, ala Velocity on DJ.

NM posted the example of a LTG card here: .

I agree with other posters - business class check-in is a great benefit! I had to fly Jetstar the other day (to Christchurch - no other oneworld option) and got my first taste for a long time having to queue to check-in! I was waiting in the queue for about 20 mins. Then you queue again for immigration, then again for security. Frustrating.

If I was flying on QF or any other o/w in economy, being able to cut out at least of those queues would be a good start!

I must be getting close as well. Lifetime Silver is handy to have if there comes a time when you cannot maintain the travel to make Gold or Platinum.

Priority check-in is a great benefit, 25% bonus QFF points and I believe you get a much better chance (than a Platinum or Gold) at a forward seat with the new QF domestic advance seat selection....

I reached this milestone earlier this year after a bit over 3 years solid Y travelling with QF.

It was nice to get the letter from QF but other than that there isn't any benifit while I still have status. Really keen to achieve the LTG!

Anybody considered the irony of the fact that it is theoretically possible to reach LTS having never been higher than NB, or even LTG without ever getting past PS? It might take a long time (a little over 20 years) of earning 690 SC per year, but you could actually get LTG having never qualified for SG

Theoretically possible indeed. However, I seriously doubt that QFF would be stable enough to allow that over 20 years. I guess we have to wait another 10 to see if LTS/LTG are still there in their current form by 2020.

If they keep it the same I'll likely be one of those that gets LTS/LTG without ever having those status to begin with.

Lets see my lifetime SC...

584.

Looooong way to go

Seriously though I might do one of those J runs from Singapore on CX whenever I get there next and if I have time.

Would be nice to just get a new card! Still on the original bronze mailout one, whenever they brought in the new cards...

Still got the really old pure white one lying around somewhere...

Almost. A little over 20 years for those who have been NB and earn 345 SC's a year. If you get PS and then only 'just' re-qualify, it'll take even longer as requal is only 300 SC's. Around 22 and a bit years if that's the case (at 300 sc's exactly re-qual).

I'll make LTS in the next 18-24 months, and that'll make it within around 10 years of joining QFF (Joined early 2001). Of that time, I spent around 18 months as a NB, then PS until last year where I went from PS with 0 SC's to SG in around 3 weeks, with WP within a few months. I'd say around 40% of my LTSC's have happened in the past 4 years, with various years being just short of SG.

Of course the real aim is LTG. Just over 40 1/2 years as a NB earning 345 SC's a year, or 45 1/2 for a PS re-qualifying at 300 exactly).

(That's assuming all accounts start from 0 SC's and earn PS in the first year).

You made an interesting point though. I've never thought of it that way :)
