Oct 1 came around and I was wondering how you were taking the drop in status to Lifetime Gold. I suppose now it's time for you to achieve Lifetime Gold on AA....
First step is EXP on AA. Hopefully I can get there this year. There are a few opportunities on the horizon that may get me over the mark if they come to fruition.

How was the final Flounge visit??
Well, I certainly hope if was not my final FLounge visit! I am hoping to regain my OneWorld Emerald status. The visit was very much worthwhile. Had a great breakfast of Eggs Benedict and Fruit Salad.

Checked my old paper statements and on 1 April 2001 I had 112 tier credits. I reached Life Gold in May this year so that is an average of 190 SCs per month over the past 6 years, the vast majority in discounted domestic Y....and people are surprised when my wife tells them that I am based in Qantas Club instead of the city in which I actually live (at least part time :-| ).

If you think the Life Silver letter is underwhelming, wait until the Life Gold one arrives. It is just 9 lines long, doesn't even cover half the page and fails to excite. If you worked out what it cost to 'buy' you would think a hamper or bottle of wine would be a nice touch.

Anyone care to scan and post the LTS and LTG letters (deleting personal info :))

My LT PS letter was printed on a dense paper with a gold coloured backing.

It's really interesting how things have changed; my "welcome to Gold" package in late 1996 included a leather travellers wallet - I still use it.

Then again; my "Welcome to Silver" delivery in early 1996 came with a travel bag.

I think I threw mine out, such was the underwhelming nature of it.

I will reach LTS after 2.5 years at the end of this month during my next circle asia trip. Not sure how long the letter will take, but I dont mind posting it.

For the first time ever, I will be changing my routing to maximise SC earning on the trip just so I can get this across the line, I really don't know why as I now have WP status until August 2009......

LTG sort of seems within reach, but so very far away, but still worth striving for as I am 36 years old and benefit could be long lasting.

For all those that have achieved LTG quickly or slowly, I take my hat off to you, as it is quite an achievement, and certainly quite an effort. As mentioned previously, I think it needs to be recognised a little better than a letter from QF, although you do get the ongoing benefits....

OK - total e-tard here. I have scanned the letter to my computer but can't get it to load onto my message as it keeps saying it is too big. It is a 65kb JPEG file. Anybody know how to get it smaller to load?

I would guess it exceeds the Max Width and/or height :(

TIA though!

65kb doesn't sound particularly big, but maybe try scanning it as a pdf file...speaking as one who blunders their way through these things, no expert!

Started travel in February 2007 after getting a promotion at work. Mainly doing Sydney - Tokyo trips with a few others thrown in. Reached Platinum status in June 07 and now have 2,100 lifetime status credits - getting closer and closer to lifetime silver!

Welcome to AFF jaltraveller!! :D

Look like you will reach LTS very quickly at your current rate.

Thanks jasonja3. Will hopefully reach lifetime status within the next few years. Love the life of being a Platinum FF!

Yes, it's a good life - blocked seats, premium desk (hopefully) when you ring, etc...

What's harder to take is the drop from Plat back to Gold, jaltraveller. NM has just felt the joy and if I'm not careful, I'll be back there on 1 March 2008.

No, I had not thrown it out. I found it today while cleaning out my desk drawers. Here is what the Lifetime Gold letter says (or said over 2 years ago):

Dear Mr NM

Gold Qantas Frequent Flyer Lifetime recognition

Congratulations. You have been awarded lifetime Gold Qantas Frequent Flyer status in recognition of the flying you have done with Qantas, oneworld alliance airlines and our partner airlines. This does not affect your current Platinum membership status, but will come into effect should your membership status change from Platinum in the future.

Gold lifetime recognition means that you can enjoy Gold status for life, no matter how often you fly*. We will send you a Gold lifetime recognition kit and card if and when your Platinum membership status changes.

If you have any questions, you will find our internet site - qantas.com - a useful source of information. Alternatively, please call our Frequent Flyer Service Centre on the priority number 13 xx xx.

We look forward to welcoming you aboard your next Qantas flight.

Yours sincerely

Anyway, I've been a member since Jan 2003 so in 4 years and 4 months (averge 96 SCs a month) I've got 71% of the way there. I think that I might get to the 7,000 mark around January 2009 (6 years exactly).

Well I've achieved the 6,000 mark now, so 4 years 9 months with the average up to 105 SC per month so given that pace it's looking like August next year (5 years 7 months) which is a little faster than I originally thought.

That expensive (not) piece of paper isn't so far away:lol:

Anyway interesting to see all the responses especially those who are powering away to LTG (the real goal) so quickly and without a DONEx (jaltraveller)!

Joined QP in 96 before I did ATW J class trip, but then did no real travel after that until mid 2002. I now do 2-3 J class trips to either Europe or NA per year, and a bit of domestic travel in Y.

Hit LTS in 2005 (IIRC), which was totally underwhelming. Currently sit on just under 10K SCs. Will add another 1,100 in Nov, and unless things change drastically, would expect to hit LTG by end 2009. Sounds like the recognition will also be underwhelming, but at least LTG provides a decent benefit if my travel patterns reduce (provided the programme is not enhanced too much).

That's nothing compared to the pain of those of us that look on, wishing we had jobs that guaranteed them the amount of business travel that many of you guys get that gives you your status!

Beardoc, I know exactly where you are coming from. I once felt that way, but I have certainly grown out of that phase now. I travel so much, that I am away from home half the year. It is hard on family life. The biggest thing is not being able to do the small jobs around the house that most take for granted.

The only consolation is that I do get to fly J and sometimes I am able to secure upgrades to F, or put my hand in my pocket and pay the difference for F.

Isn't it always the way beardoc - you want what we have (lots of flying) and we want what you have (lack of flying) . It goes full circle...

Trust me, I get more enjoyment out of spending time with my wife and 7 month old daughter than being away. My amount of travelling was curtailled with the change to our family life and reducing our business size, but I now can afford the higher fare classes (I buy K class) as I have less flights.

Back on topic, I qualified a couple of weeks ago for LT Silver, so it's taken since the beginning of the program to now. My path to LT Gold will be a long one.... (but probably done in a little more comfort).

What about flying and being away with your wife and 7 month old daughter ... get the best of both worlds ... :p ;)
