Lifetime status - only Qantas & Jetstar status credits count?

Depends if you're just after Emerald. There are benefits to QF Platinum (and in particular, Lifetime Platinum) that go beyond Emerald.
Absolutely.

In my circumstance I don't think I'll be able to maintain QF Platinum very often so it's makes sense to stay gold and direct the earn elsewhere.

Others will definitely be better off staying with QF

"If selected before 31 December 2021, Loyalty Bonus Status Credits do count towards reaching and keeping Platinum One status."
They've never counted for P1.

Lifetime Platinum with QF is unobtainable for most if you are not regularly exceeding P1 mileage

At roughly 63 years of the minimum qualification for Platinum, you'll have already spent a lifetime at platinum to get there.

I wouldn't be surprised Qantas lowers the LTP bar from 'unrealistic' to 'crazy hard', at some point, i.e. during a QFF program 'enhancement'. As it is now, it doesnt seem to serve it's purpose, and the few dozen that made it probably qualifies P1 every year anyway.

More likely, it will be an inducement for people with LTG to keep crediting to QF, e.g. lowering the bar to qualify for platinum each year (say 700 SCs vs 1200) or introducing a LT Gold Plus teir at 28k SC or similar.

Personally, I'd keep crediting if there was a lower bar to qualify for platinum, but wouldn't bother if it was an intermediate teir.

I hope if they are planning this change that they announce it soon so that I don't waste my time crediting any more flights to Qantas, as I'll never get to lifetime silver or gold with only QF/JQ flights.
I'm getting close to LTS and do most of my flying on QF (I avoid JQ as much as possible), so provided the level of SCs needed don't change I should get to LTS in 2022 or 2023.

I need QF to continue to count Double Status Credits towards Lifetime Status and even then I may not get to LTG.

6 DSC return J trips to the UK is a lot and 12 standard credit trips would be a lot more again.

I agree that this is something they may very well look at, particularly as BA Executive Club is now available officially to Australian residents. Whilst not identical, there is a lot of similarity in the status credits/tier points earning rates in QFF and BAEC. Lifetime Oneworld Emerald in BAEC is 35,000 tier points. and it would make sense for it to be 35,000 SCs for Qantas Lifetime Platinum.

Most of my flying is on BA, but I've stuck with QFF primarily due to the prospect of reaching QFF Lifetime Silver/Gold at 7,000 and 14,000 SCs. BAEC doen't have Lifetime Oneworld Ruby/Sapphire and I don't think I would ever reach 35,000 tier points/status credits. If BAEC had Lifetime Oneworld Ruby/Sapphire at similar levels to Qantas then I probably would have just credited to BA.

If one flies BA a lot then it's likely a no brainer specially for the higher status things like GGL offer far superior benefits to QF P1 and the obvious lower requirements to LTP. Of course these things can all change on a dime, and they require (as with QF) a focus on the home carrier but it certainly makes sense depending on one's situation.
