Hi, in your experience, how likely will Qantas be offering some red e-deals for flights to Japan traveling around Dec 14-18 2016? I can only see e-saver at around $1100 one way at the moment, which is quite expensive. Should I wait for the promotional fare?
Thanks.

Last year December 14 or thereabouts was the threshold, didn't see cheap seats after that date. Their current pricing has different tiers for (24 Nov 2016 to 14 Dec 2016) and (15 Dec 2016 to 26 Dec 2016), and I wouldn't necessarily be too hopeful of seeing cheap pricing for the latter (or would jump on if I did).

Have you checked JAL's website, up to end of Nov they are asking AUD$935 return, SYD - Tokyo, including taxes.
Not so good if SYD is not your starting point.
Yes, you earn less SC flying JAL (they are in OW), than on QF, but its an option to check on prices.

Qantas no but Jetstar maybe.. And also remember that jetstar price beat guarantee works for same day on international.

I booked SYD-->HND on QF PE for circa 1.5k late August 2015 for 25/12/15 departure. Thought that was a very reasonable fare! Although both flights had "last minute aircraft changes" which lead to winning on departure and majorly loosing on return. Upgraded with 30k points to Business and ended up in Row 4 on Longreach old F style. Downgraded to cattle on return due to "maintenance issues." Needless to say it was a horrible flight home. I heard some J pax got a double downgrade to cattle as well! I digress. . .
