Limited-time Velocity Frequent Flyer status match until 24/5/24

Just what VA needs when they are investing zero dollars into their seven lounges and Sydney is already looking like a dogs breakfast everytime you go in there.
Maybe it's just the times I'm travelling but I haven't really noticed overcrowding to be that much of an issue in Sydney. It does get busy at peak times (of course) but I've always been able to find a seat.

Standing room only in ADL the last half a dozen evenings we have been there

Data point: friend of mine requested the status match on 21/05 and was granted Discover Gold this morning

Rejected! (on NBA Jam Voice)

They did point out that I am already Silver and they don't status match AC Gold. Fair enough.

I applied on 21 May, Discover Gold confirmed via email on 28 May.

Booked SYD-OOL in J and OOL-SYD in Choice Y during the triple SC promo, which according to my calculations should net me 210 SCs and hence Platinum status with Virgin.

I applied on the 23rd. I sent details, and a screenshot of my Gold Qantas account.

They wrote back today, the 4th, to say I needed to send them details with an expiry date - evidence of either a physical card or the digital card.

That email came in at about 4:45pm (Sydney). I took a photo of my physical card, and a screenshot of my digital card through the qantas app, and replied to that email with both images just to be sure. The same person wrote back with my approval by about 5:30pm.

Does anyone know what the "earn" word means in all of this for further qualification?

From that approval email:
"We'll assess your eligibility at the end of your 3 month Discover Gold trial, and if you earn 80 Status Credits and fly at least one Eligible Sector during this time, you will receive 12 months of full Gold status."

Can any of those "earned" status credits be from family pooling? They can be for regular status, of course, but does anyone know if that applies here too? Without any special handling I'm likely to have 70 or 75 status credits in that period, but I could almost certainly get some additional family pooling credits too.

Did anyone get a ticket auto response when emailing initially? I haven’t heard anything since the 22nd and replied to my original email last Friday to follow up, and got an automated ticket response. Didn’t get that the first time I emailed though. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I got a ticket auto response.

One potential difference: I didn't use the exact title generated from the Virgin page advertising this deal, because I found out about it elsewhere. It was close but not an absolute match. So take that with whatever size grain of salt you wish.

Having now completed the above status run, and with the triple SCs successfully posting almost immediately after each flight, I am wondering exactly how long I need to wait for my status to be upgraded to Platinum.

On face value, the terms of the status match indicate that not only do I need to wait till the end of the 3-month trial but possibly another 8 weeks after that:

'At the conclusion of the 3-month ‘Switch-A-Roo Discover Gold’ trial, Velocity will assess an Eligible Velocity Member’s eligibility to retain Gold Status or upgrade to Platinum Status.

If the Eligible Velocity Member is a Gold member of an eligible Frequent Flyer program and during the 3-month Switch-A-Roo Discover Gold period earned 80 Status Credits and flew at least 1 Eligible Sector, the Eligible Velocity Member will maintain Gold Status with Velocity for a further 12 months from the date of assessment.

If the Eligible Velocity Member is a Platinum member (or above) with an eligible Frequent Flyer program and during the 3-month Switch-A-Roo Discover Gold trial period earned 200 Status Credits on flights with a VA flight number operated by Virgin Australia, the Eligible Velocity Member will receive Platinum Status for a period of 12 months from the date of assessment. Please allow for up to 8 weeks after the Discover Gold trial period for the Platinum Status upgrade to be processed and applied.'

Seems a bit silly for VA to not grant Platinum status immediately upon the SC and eligible flight criteria being met, and I am obviously hoping I won't have to wait 3/5 months.

Anyone have relevant experience with similar VA status match promotions in the past?

Funny I was declined due to being current silver velocity when matching to qantas gold. Given they sent me marketing acknowledging my current status…
