Re: Good limo service MEL?

Thanks guys for the tips. Unfortunately from the calls I have made it looks like about $75 including all cabcharge/credit card fees. Considering a cab is only costing me $45-50 all inclusive I don't know if I can justify 65% increase in cost. Saying that it is all claimed back through my company but just not sure if the person who approves my claims will question me as to the rise in cost!

I guess this is the problem with living so close to the airport! If I was going to the city or my companies office in South Melbourne it would be a no brainer.

Pity you can't share the ride

Re: Good limo service MEL?

Just a bump to this thread. Heading to Melbourne in first weekend in June. Any suggestions for a good driver for airport to south bank Hilton return?

Re: Good limo service MEL?

I have started using allhirecars.com.au booking through their website and prepaying. It is not the same driver or car every time but so far the service has been brilliant. Last week I managed to get on an earlier flight and just gave them a call as I was boarding, an hour later when I arrived in MEL the driver was there waiting for me. Is only $60 from the airport to my place in Brunswick West, not sure to Southbank.

A good price to southbank would be $65.

Re: Good limo service MEL?

Gee that is pretty cheap Sprucegoose. I haven't found anyone that would do it for under $70 including paying with credit card except for the guys I have stated. All the recommendations given to me in this forum were above that.

Re: Good limo service MEL?

Thought i would give an update having been to MEL a couple of weeks back. It may not be for everyone - lets face it if you regularly hire a driver when visiting MEL you must have cash to burn, so hire away! :) and if your a resident well again not for you (unless you live near the SCS)

I went back and forward in regards hiring a driver. In the end i decided it wasn't worth the $140 odd i was looking at. So i went for the next best option, the skybus! I have to say what a brilliant service it is and it only cost $28.00 Airport to hotel door and back!

Walked out the airport doors and pretty much straight onto the bus which takes you to the Southern Cross Station - these busses run 24/7 10 mins apart (i believe they drop to 30 mins in the wee hours). Once you get off the bus in SCS you walk to a window, tell them your hotel and they put you onto a smaller bus to run you out.

Kerb to Hotel it was approx 25-30 mins which would be similar to driving in a car. Given i was the only passenger on the hotel run it was almost like having a personal driver :)

Return was pretty much as simple - called the morning i was departing and booked a pick up. Bus rocked up a couple of minutes early, was 1 other person onboard. Quick drive to the SCS, walked straight onto the larger bus (which was full) and back to the airport.

I'm a bit of a public transport snob, if i can avoid it i do. But i wouldn't hesitate to take the skybus again.

Re: Good limo service MEL?

Hi nlagalle,

Coule you pm me Nick's details. I don't have the required posts to pm you. I am looking for a regular ride for MEL.

Thanks

Re: Good limo service MEL?

I've used 1300pickup in the past and been very happy with them.

Hi

Any recommendations on a limo service from MEL domestic into the city.
Using the car service as a surprise for my sons trip to Melbourne for his 21st birthday, so a bonus would be a upmarket vehicle but in saying that I'm not sure what the 'standard' vehicle is that most limo services use.

I searched this forum and found Gems Limo was recommended but that post is over 18 month old, so any current recommendations would be appreciated.

thanks
kaz
