Hi all,

Just trying to link a Domestic JAL flight to my Qantas account and it doesn't recognise the reference number. Called the JAL and they said talk to Qantas. Qantas can't find it and doesn't have a clue.

It's not a rewards flight and I booked directly through JAL. Qantas keeps on saying it's a third party booking, they can't can't see the booking reference.

Has anyone had this issue before?

Thanks

Can't generally add to the Qantas website if no Qantas sectors are in the booking. You can easily add your frequent flyer number though?

JAL is on a different GDS. You access through them, and you can't add the booking to the QFF app etc because no Amadeus PNR exists.
Thanks

Already did when booking. Just didn't want to go through cough fight trying to get my status credits.
I remember I could flying BA when I was in Europe just before Covid, all my flights were should on the website. Maybe I booked with an OTA not directly with the airline.

Thanks

I had this experience

No you can’t put them in the Qantas app, you do need to put the frequent flyer number in The booking

And the status credits turned up within a week so I would have faith that it will automatically be added to your QFF account

Just a side question, anyone know how many SC you get from cough to HND in business? On the Qantas Calculator it only shows, Economy, Flex Eco, Prem Eco and First Class but no Business. It's 10 SC for economy so I'm just being a bit presumptuous and guessing it should be 40 SC

Thanks!

10SC for Class J.

JL domestic flights are a bit confusing for their partner airlines as a result of how they are sold (for domestic bookings).
In most cases, domestic flights are only sold as Economy with the option of surcharges for "Class J" and F. Those surcharges can be paid at any time from booking the flight up until check in. The way it's coded in the system makes some partners confused as to if the pax has paid for an economy flight or a business/first flight.

On my first JL domestic flight booked on an international business class ticket, when I got to HND to check in, the agent got confused and asked for the Class J surcharge when I said I was in business, until they saw on my paperwork that it was a DONE3 ticket and had been booked in "Class J" when I booked the flight.

Compare the domestic flights to international. QF has no idea what to do with JL domestic.

Also see this thread from a few weeks ago

That's interesting if JL are also on amadeus and doesn't show up but other oneworld airlines such as BA and CX on the same system does.

I remember having that experience too on a RTW J ticket in 2000. They wanted to charge us for extra baggage until I pointed out that it was a business fare.

JL has been on Amadeus, the same system as QF, for a number of years.
To add to this, I'm of the understanding that JAL domestic and international use two separate systems.

If you try to book a JAL domestic flight directly on JAL's Japan website (https://www.jal.co.jp/jp/en/), then it will take you to the domestic booking system and the PNR from this can only be used/seen on the domestic system (https://booking.jal.co.jp/jl/dom-pbkg/manage-booking). You'll still be able to add your QFF member number for OW benefits and earn some SCs (as others have noted its not much and gets quite confusing - https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/threads/qf-status-earn-on-jal.111570/).
I did have one instance where I had to call up JAL to add my QFF number on a purely domestic booking since it didn't work on their website for some reason, but this was a while ago and they sorted it out fine.

If you book a JAL Japan Explorer Pass Fare or have booked a QFF Classic Reward fare on a JAL domestic flight, then these can be managed on the international system (which would use the Amadeus backend).

QFF Gold = OW Sapphire so will grant access to the domestic JAL Global Club entry points at select airports (priority manned check in counters, priority baggage and dedicated security line).

I booked business, J.....so it's classified as premium economy which is 20 SC. Meh maybe I'll book economy as it's 1/3 of the biz price for my other leg. Still flipping on Shinkansen or Flying. Fukuoka CBD is pretty close to both airport and JR station.
Thanks heaps everyone for helping on this issue!

Unlikely to credit as 20 SCs unless the base fare you booked was near full fare economy. Most likely you got Discount Economy + Surcharge, which would give you 10 SCs

Not anymore. When they moved to Amadeus they were forced by Amadeus to adopt pretty much the full suite of Amadeus products.

I believe there's still a frontend ie. website difference where they maintain domestic vs international manage booking tools, but in the backend it's all Amadeus.

So, do you happen to know why QF can't access JL PNRs (in terms of adding to app) then? Is it a "firewall" within the GDS itself? That would make some sense.

I certainly wasnt able to a few months back in a purely JL booking and iirc I did some research into it, hence my earlier comment.

QF don't have viewership rights for JL created PNRs.

QF has viewership of BA/CX/UL/AY created PNRs even when there's no QF content, hence you can add these PNRs to the QF app ... that's all the ones I'm aware of.

Of course, QF can always view a PNR that contains QF content, or has had QF content at some point in its lifetime.

All of my pax use the QF app to view their bookings, even non-QF bookings. I do this by manually granting QF access to the PNR which then allows the QF app as well as the QF manage booking tool to view the booking.
