Our current itinerary are all single sector PNRs, most of which with VA partners (EY and VS) but one is a UL sector which I note has also been linked and all of them appear now as just one PNR under "my bookings". This was done at check in at SYD. Is this normal? It doesn't bother us at all (as far as I know), I was just wondering about it as I didn't think they could link non-partner PNRs or is this perhaps part of an interline agreement?

You'll probably find that they are GK segments also known as ghost sectors purely there for baggage interline. I'm surprised VA were happy to interline to UL...

That's .. interesting. According to Expert Flyer, VA don't have any interline agreements with UL...

I have no idea myself, but the GK (whatever that is) makes a degree of sense. The VA SYD check-in lady told me to "watch and learn" when I asked but even she was unsure if the UL booking would work.....but it did. I'll be super happy if I jag VA points for a UL booking! ;)
