Linking Separate (Consecutive) Itineraries/Tickets

I've had past experience linking two separate bookings when on the same flight, but I'm not sure if there's anyway to link to separate Itineraries that are consecutive, but both with Qantas?

I'm currently booked on QF36 Leaving Singapore 20:15 and planning on Booking QF2 arriving 17:25 into Singapore.

While that should be plenty of time to clear customers and check back in, I'd rather not risk it and have maximum lounge time.

Can i post-booking link the two Itineraries together, or will they let me check in for the following flight and send my baggage through at Heathrow?

Yes QF to QF can be linked. Just call them to get it linked.

Are you sure? My understanding was that Qantas had stopped doing this (officially) where separate PNRs were concerned. The only exception being if one flight is an award and the other a revenue fare. (But even then, I've been denied in the past and had to check in again at the midpoint destination.)

Yes. I do it on occasion for others.

You can strictly only link QF to QF - ie. both PNRs must have connecting QF flights. For example a MEL-SYD QF flight on PNR A, connecting to a SYD-LAX QF flight on PNR B.

It's the same linking method as when you link multiple passengers on multiple PNRs travelling on the same flights.

Fairly certain they will check your bags through even if on two PNRs if both flights are QF metal, codes and tickets.

If QF is allowing the linking of bookings as per madrooster... no need to spend time calling in. Just do it at the airport when you get there for chicken. Show the connecting itinerary (printout or PNR) and the agent will through check.

They've linked separate bookings from Perth to east coast through to Auckland so domestic leg then international at the airport multiple times in the past. Never a problem. I haven't done that for a while though, maybe a year?

No. Prior to airport control they behave as two differrent PNRs. However when it goes to airport control, when you check in, it behaves as if it's one PNR.

Yes it has to be done over the phone with QF, unless you booked with a TA that uses Amadeus. If it's a TA that uses Amadeus then they can do it directly themselves. That said many Amadeus-using TA's do not know how to do the linking... so calling QF may be the better way.

I've honestly never tested that scenario so I don't have an answer for you. The system QF use to process upgrades isn't part of the departure control system and this linking method is specifically a departure control system feature.
 
Today a Qantas operator linked 2 classic reward flights for me, one on Cathay JFK-HKG connecting with QF HKG-SYD. There's only 2 hours between flights in HK. (I tried to book online and by phone as multi-city, ended up having to book online as separate flights, whole 'nother story). The operator said she couldn't combine on 1 ticket as there was no open classic reward seat for either flight. She said linking would allow me to have bags checked through from JFK to SYD. Linking tickets is new to me, can I rely on this? I have the option of taking a much earlier CX flight but would rather not. Thanks.

Nice of the operator to offer but it wouldn’t have made much of a difference in this case. During check-in at new york you would have advised them you were flying through to australia and they would have linked the bookings there and printed out the baggage labels for you. I would still advise the agent, at the outset, that you are flying on to Australia just to make sure they can see the linked booking. Bring a print out just in case.

This is completely useless - CX won't see the flight to AU no matter how they try to link it. You will need to manually advise CX of the QF flight back to AU and generally they will check your bags through.
 
What is the policy for Dom-Int flights with a overnight (evening flight in and morning flight out) - all QF? I am assume I won't be able to have my bag checked onward to LHR?

Which port and what flight numbers?
 
@madrooster , is this linking using the same process as TCP or does it relate to the addition of Ghost/Information segments.

By calling I used to be able to do the latter with Qantas when connecting to/from separate AA bookings.

A couple of years ago this type of request was rejected ... "we are not allowed to do that anymore", so I have not tried since.
