I've decided to spend a fortnight in the UK in October trying to patch things up with the ex,as she lives close to central London I plan to stay at one
of the many IHG group properties and was wondering whether anyone has recommendations they can share, have done a little bit of research and I
can get the H.I at Regents Park for 104 GBP a night which seems reasonable ,current exchange rate means it's about $160AUD so not too bad.
I'm status gold at the moment but with a little luck should be platinum by that time if that makes any difference.
Planning on burning some points by staying at the H.I near LHR on the first night so I can recover from the flight,I would greatly appreciate any
advice.
Cheers

By October I would expect that the Olympics fever will have abated and there might be some good deals around. The IC hotels often have pretty good specials; I would search for "Holiday Inn UK special deals" about 6 to 8 weeks out. I have not stayed at HI Regent's Park but have stayed at Indigo Paddington (if using points on arrival, it might be best to catch the Heathrow Express and stay here rather than at the airport - a lot more interesting), Crowne Plaza St James, Holiday Inn Camden Lock (I like the area - a bit different), Crowne Plaza London The City, Holiday Inn Mayfair and Holiday Inn Bloomsbury as well as the Intercontinental. I have enjoyed my stays at each of these and would happily return, although Camden Lock is the one I have stayed at most. Would be pleased to give more details about any of the above.

OK I have stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Kensington, it was really nice. close to Gloucester Station. room was a tad squashy but that is LHR

The HI in Bloomsberry is close to Russell Square station, rooms are very pokey though. Breakfast was good and the Irish bar attached to it is as well. A work friend who stayed at that and the Kings Cross one said Bloomberry was a bit better.

I stayed at Hotel Indigo near Paddington station in dec last year and really liked it. The 'executive' room I was upgraded too was a good size and they had free wifi. Good location and wasn't too expensive.

The main thing here is what part of central London. You can be in central London, and need to get to another part of central London... and depending on where it is, it can still take you a darn long time to get there! If you can let me know (PM) if you like, then I can respond with a few suggestions...

I have stayed at the HI at Oxford Circus a couple of times and it is has proven quite convenient. The prices I am seeing for October GBP200+ are ridiculous though. The rooms are a bit poky but comfortable. It was handy to have pretty much everything in the West End within walking distance.

In contrast I was actually going to recommend that as a property to NOT stay at. My parents stayed there when they came over to visit, and I/they certainly didn't think much of it... YMMV.

Google Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza '2 for 1' as these and other special rates are offered regularly in Europe and the UK.

Here is a weekend promo offering discounts.
