Long Overdue - SQ F/R MEL-SIN-FRA

As the title suggests - not before time I get to return to me beloved SQ F/R flts - it’s been way to long - indeed Dec 11, 2019 was the last R flt I took back to MEL from SIN:

So here we are back in the saddle again. As I mentioned in the Tips, Trips and Tales thread there are many reports as to how SQ R and F post Covid is not what it was pre Covid - but what is?

I’ll try to highlight the changes as I see them - I’ll try not to include too many personal views as to acceptability or deficiencies in changes I see - that should be up to others - we all have our own personal views.

Arrival at MEL so simple - hardly a vehicle to be seen dropping off at T2 - what a pleasure!

Then to find SQ checkin counters - not where they used to be - board says Checkin P - WTF is P? Oh - way back there - imm adjacent to entrance to new Inter Dep hall.

Checkin so simple - cursory check of Intl Vac Cert and Passport and we are good to go in 2 mins.

As usual that abomination of security belts still causing probs - 2 diff belts being worked on as I passed thru - the belt my items went through on was spitting basically all items to the side for physical check - both my tubs went that way and after 30secs viewing screen and without opening any items ‘You are good to go Sir’ 👍

Quick check of Duty Free and they are no longer stocking Calvin Klein watches - the Ette loves CK watches and has like dozen of them - apparently that’s nowhere near enough- your out of luck today baby 👍

I did see 2 x 1ltr Baileys for $59 - that’s value - bet it ain’t that price on return - now off to the lounge.
 
Time to head down to the Lounge and surprise surprise neither of the escalators are working. Interesting note about the escalators leading down to lounges in MEL - these were a special ‘one off’ production exclusively for MEL and all these years later because they are unique spare parts for them are almost impossible to source - many have to be made specifically for them - hence the oh so regular down time.

Now bear in mind SKL in MEL was closed for 18mths - it has been open again now for couple months but they are still finding their feet. Peter who was the head Chef is now Lounge Manager - had a good chat to him - he says he is determined to give all pax the best possible exp they can - you want something you ask for it - it will be supplied if humanly possible.

(Peter was the one who used to make me the most exquisite Croque Madame ever imaginable even though it was never on the menu when I was dep on 238)

Still same table service in F section but not an old face amongst lounge staff - they are all new - the menu here:

Yep it was frozen in a former life but still more than edible - chippeees were goooooood 👍

Reached CA and imm connected to WiFi - WOW - flt almost 100% full - F full - J full - PE 1 spare seat - Y about 8 spare seats - Jeremiah is IFM and he is so happy people are flying again - SQ staff members down from about 7,500 at its peak to about 5,000 now.

That number has built significantly from sub 4,000 couple months back as routes open up - hopefully hopefully hopefully we can get most carriers back up to pre-Covid number ASAP - fly, fly away I say 👍

Nobel Peace Prize winning question - TBH I had totally forgotten - so I did ask - yep crew did get to find me a girlie - but boysie already distributed.

OMFG: I never new this - small items teddies, playing cards, colouring books etc for kids are all loaded in SIN and must accomodate both outbound and inbound sectors.

So for teddies - outbound 2 loaded for F - 1 girl 1 boy and 2 loaded for J - 1 girl 1 boy - once they are gone they are gone - so CSS Verna the star in F has msged forward to make sure I get boysie teddy on next sector to FRA 👍

Got me beat why some dudes say SQ are best in the air ?
