Hi All,

Just reviewing out travel plans to Europe booked for May , I have booked my Europe tickets using Qantas points all booked under classic reward flights . There are 3 different booking reference nos. as i booked them as the classic award tickets became available as below
Leg 1 Mel-Sin- Mel
Leg 2 Singapore-Doha- Vienna
Leg 3 Paris-Dubai-Singapore
I understand cancellation charges are 6000 points per passenger , does this mean i will be charged 6000X3 points per passenger or juts 6000 points per passenger for all 3 cancellations.
Can we pay cash instead of points for the cancellations? does anyone know how much do 6000 points translate to in terms of AUD

Thanks

Still no points or cash refund after last weeks cancellation. Given QF call centers are currently under the pump I'm reluctant to call for the time being.

Hmmm....I cancelled a reward flight this morning and no points have been returned. It’s usually very quick.

I decided to change my late May SYD-MEL-LAX award booking to a SYD-BNE-LAX in late September (in the hope that the situation may potentially improve by then).

As I was looking around the website at options, one option that came up was SYD-HKG-LAX on CX, with the first leg in J and the second in F.

When I clicked through, it didn't ask for any extra points but only just the difference in taxes.

I'm not sure if this would stick or if it would even ticket properly, but clearly there's something funny going on at the moment.

Does anyone know if you get an email confirmation when you cancel online? I have cancelled a flight for tomorrow night, but the booking is still showing albeit with an error message if you click on it. But no confirmation of any description from Qantas. Just wanting to know if this is normal?

I just cancelled an award booking and I don't believe you get an email confirmation.

However, there is a confirmation screen given after the cancellation, and if you screen print this it will serve as your confirmation.

I cancelled on a Saturday , received confirmation email, points and $ refund the following Wednesday.

My points refund just showed up. Got charged the 6,000pt cancellation fee (and didn’t get the carbon offset refunded)
Was the flight you cancelled still operating? If Qantas cancels the flight then I would expect them to give a full points refund. I'm on QF1 in F at the end of March and I won't be cancelling until the day before departure, in case they do cancel it in the meantime.

This flight wasn't cancelled. It was 1 family member on a separate J ticket, so I was doing a tester to see if I could avoid the call centre. Looks like I'll wait before doing the other 5 F tickets! Bet I'll never get F again.

I did not expect that , under the current circumstances, cancellation fees would be charged!

I cancelled my flight online on Monday morning. I was booked on QF19 to Manila tomorrow which is still scheduled. I did try to call Qantas on Sunday and Monday unsuccessfully to cancel but was concerned that if didn;t cancel on Monday I might be treated as a no-show and lose everything. No email received (as expected) but tonight I received the points back LESS the 6k penalty. The app is still sending me messages about checking in and which gate flight is going from. I expect the taxes less the cc fee will be returned in a day or two.

I am going to give Qantas the benefit of the doubt that they have not reprogrammed the IT yet to not charge the 6k penalty and that the points will automatically be refunded in a few days.

If this doesn't happen then I expect it be a battle to get the points back. I am not sure how much time I want to invest for 6k points.

IIRC the announcement said that "Change" fees would be refunded, not cancel fees for award tickets.

Surely with the newly advised Level 4 "DO NOT TRAVEL" ban just announced, the 6k points cancellation should now be refunded as well?

But then again it's Qantas...

You would hope so. My flights were depart Mar 18 (today) and return Mar 25. On Sunday it was announced that Manila airport is to be closed to international and domestic traffic from Mar 20. I cancelled Monday Mar 16. As I said I hope Qantas will retrospectively credit back the cancellation fee. It is not as if you could easily ring up and discuss options with them.

Let us give them time to do the right thing.

Feel for you mate, very troubling and uncertain times ahead... I hope you get the cancellation points back!

I cancelled a reward booking yesterday as I wanted a different destination and it cost me 6k points. I didn't feel it right to blame it on the pandemic as I wanted to reroute through the same transit point (Hong-Kong)
SAme here - cancelled my wife's tickets to/from Tasmania in the beginning of April on Saturday. Taxes/charges not refunded yet ( 5 days) and deducted 6k points per sector. Trying to gt them back as Qantas undertook FULL refund of tickets - and reward flights cant be vouchered on the Qantas website. Any other ideas to get the points back?

we have a flight booked for 27 March. just holding off cancelling to see if rules change re flexibility. However one leg of the journey has totally disappeared from our booking. we use points to do the booking through qantas, however the missing leg from madrid to hong kong (16 April) was with Cathay. We have not received any notification from anyone or refunds. Does anyone knows the implications of this silence?
