Hi All,

Just reviewing out travel plans to Europe booked for May , I have booked my Europe tickets using Qantas points all booked under classic reward flights . There are 3 different booking reference nos. as i booked them as the classic award tickets became available as below
Leg 1 Mel-Sin- Mel
Leg 2 Singapore-Doha- Vienna
Leg 3 Paris-Dubai-Singapore
I understand cancellation charges are 6000 points per passenger , does this mean i will be charged 6000X3 points per passenger or juts 6000 points per passenger for all 3 cancellations.
Can we pay cash instead of points for the cancellations? does anyone know how much do 6000 points translate to in terms of AUD

Thanks

At 9:30am this morning I cancelled a return Intl biz flight (QF metal) booked with points. At 10:50am the points were back in my account and I received an email stating the $ refund had already been processed.
I'm pleasantly shocked.
The cancellation was done on-line, and not through the Call Centre?

Yep, online booking, online cancellation,

Hi all

I'm about to cancel a couple of reward seats which were booked using a credit card that I am wanting to cancel in the next week or so. If I don't luck out and get an 'instant' refund to the card, what's my best course of action in the current climate? I read one suggestion that QF will shoot the refund to that bank regardless, and a customer can then chase the bank to have the funds forwarded?

Cheers

I had a bunch of these scenarios in 2020 with my holiday plans all cancelled (and booked on closed credit cards)........ put a bunch of effort on the phone, trying to get the cash diverted back to me..... and on must occasions, no luck....... but the banks all found me and either send me a cheque if I was no longer with them or placed funds into new card...... all worked out for me in the end, doing nothing but keeping a file on what I was waiting for and ticking it off when it turned up.

I think if it's refunded to your card within a few weeks, you can contact your bank and get your money back. I've done this before with NAB.

In my experience recently cancelling reward seats it's been very smooth though. Got my money back in ~1 week. I would expect this is the norm unless something goes wrong in the system.
  • Sun, Aug 21 - Cancelled Seats Online
  • Mon, Aug 22 - Received "Your refund is being processed" email
  • Mon, Aug 22 (Evening) - Points back in my QFF Account
  • Wed, Aug 24 - Received "Your refund has been processed" email
  • Fri, Aug 26 - Funds back on my American Express

I recently cancelled two awards and both payments were refunded within 2-3 days. Points instantly.

I've found refunds for cancelled award flights to be not too bad.

My issues are with a flight credit (say for $1,000) which you use in part only (say $400) and the promised reissue of credit for the remaining $600 still hasn't happened 9 months later and despite numerous phone calls.

Just a note from my anecdotal experience: if you've changed the reward flight at any time, it may take longer.

For tickets I haven't made changes to and then cancelled recently, points came back immediately and refund within a week.

For the two I had changed and then cancelled, it took 2-4 weeks for both. I didn't call to get at least the points back immediately as I didn't need them, but likely could have.

It seems a bit hit and miss.

This week I've booked and cancelled numerous all points classic awards, all but one were refunded almost immediately.

Oddly the one yet to be refunded (now 4 days after cancellation) is the only award I booked on QF metal . . .

Cancelled a few legs a week or so ago - how long would they typically take to credit back points & dollars? Cheers.

For me, a few days for tickets that haven’t been changed. Its all over the place if you’ve made a change to the booking.

Cancelled two separate bookings last week:

2x tickets on QF, points refunded within 5-7 hours, taxes refunded after 2 days.
2x tickets on CX, points refunded after 5 days, taxes refunded after 7 days

Pleasantly surprised as I had spent 6 months trying to get taxes back for another flight earlier in the year where only half of the taxes were refunded.

I've been chasing a refund since May, thought I had some success a few weeks ago, but this prompted me to check, still nothing.

Called back today, was told the request was queued last time, and rejected. Now put in again and been told to allow 8 weeks... 😒

Qantas (Australia) rang to clear up a different matter yesterday, and whilst I was on the phone I asked about an OWA (that had had several changes & additions etc) that I cancelled 8 days previously.

The CSA said that "the cancellation hadn't been actioned" - not sure whether it would have been if she hadn't intervened. Anyway, whilst I was on the phone she cancelled it, the 636,000 points reappeared immediately, and she said the $ would be back in 5-7 days.

How was it cancelled previously?
