Hi All,

Just reviewing out travel plans to Europe booked for May , I have booked my Europe tickets using Qantas points all booked under classic reward flights . There are 3 different booking reference nos. as i booked them as the classic award tickets became available as below
Leg 1 Mel-Sin- Mel
Leg 2 Singapore-Doha- Vienna
Leg 3 Paris-Dubai-Singapore
I understand cancellation charges are 6000 points per passenger , does this mean i will be charged 6000X3 points per passenger or juts 6000 points per passenger for all 3 cancellations.
Can we pay cash instead of points for the cancellations? does anyone know how much do 6000 points translate to in terms of AUD

Thanks

I tried cancelling some classic reward flights this morning for travel before 30 July 2020.

The first booking allowed me to cancel, however the second booking only gave the option of a travel credit??

... and for one of them the points have already been refunded with a (pointedly) 0 point refund fee. Just need to see when the ¥ come back.
...
And the $+++ had been refunded this morning (That was HND-xSYD-MEL, and the $+++ was in ¥)

So, in about 40 hours for that one after cancelling online Sunday afternoon.

Still waiting on the other ... although it has now dropped of the My Bookings Page (MEL-SIN-HND the $+++ is in AUD).

When I select the cancel on some flights (HKG-BNE) in mid-June, it still says that I will be charged 6000PT cancellation - should I just ignore that?

The wording on the cancellation page hasn't been updated yet but I went ahead and cancelled my flights anyway and there was no cancellation fee charged.

see my post #126 made on Sunday.

Since then one of the bookings I cancelled has been refunded both in points and ¥+++, along with a 0 point cancellation fee transaction showing in my activity.

I just cancelled a SIN-PER Classic Reward for late June.

The cancellation page for me was updated to read as follows

Cancellation of Classic Flight Reward Bookings will incur a fee of 6,000 points per passenger. The 6,000 points fee will not be applied to Classic Flight Reward bookings cancelled up until 30 April 2020, and where your original travel date was prior to and including 31 July 2020

Haven't read the whole thread, just adding a reference point. Cancelled a return classic points booking on JQ DPS-BNE that was due to fly towards the end of March. I had expected to lose 6000 points/person, but received every point back. Only delay was getting the cash component due to the Indonesian office having to process it as it was originally ticketed in IDR. The cash appeared to my card first, almost missed it. I phoned the premium line a few days later and they advised points go a little slower. I was happy to wait but they processed them then and there.

My flights that I cancelled a few weeks ago have now disappeared from my bookings with no refund (I know it will come eventually), however when I look on the website under my bookings I see this:

Does anyone else get the same booking?

A few days ago I contacted QF via a FB message and they got back to me yesterday. After providing a few details to them I had an email from them early this morning saying the refunds had been processed. Using social media seems far easier than waiting on hold for hours

Found out that if there were any changes to your booking, the refund process is not automated and will require manual intervention (and delay).

So if yours came through within a few days, that's probably why.

What do you mean by changes? I have had a few schedule /time changes...

Joe. I had that issue and called my bank before I cancelled the booking. The bank (BankWest) told me if the card had been cancelled then the payment from Qantas would most likely “bounce” back to Qantas. So I called Qantas and explained that response and the service agent took all the details of the card I wanted the refund to go to (ANZ) and asked me to get a Stat Dec stating the card number (first 6 and last 4 numbers) and expiry date of BOTH the Bankwest and ANZ cards and Email it to them.

What a process! Good to confirm James you were told the same info for this scenario although after a 2 hour wait & then dealing with a luck of customer service, QF do not want to make it easy!

What email were you provided?

This is what I was provided which just seems ridiculous..!! WTF does it stand for other then the funds part?

FYI an update with Amex, they confirmed they still accept credits for upto a year after account closure, you simply call them & they will issue the direct credit to your bank account. They’re not issuing cheques due to Covid-19.

Much Easier then dealing with Qantas!!

I'm trying to get points and money back on a flight that was cancelled on 6th of February..
What should I do to force action? Ombudsman ? which department or link applies to airlines?

Has anyone received refunds of points/taxes simply by cancelling online? I had 6 flights that I cancelled via the website 3 weeks ago and received nothing so far. Obviously happy to wait but just wondering if this will require manual intervention.

For the flights that I couldn't cancel online and had to call, the refunds were processed almost immediately.

I did this 3 weeks ago tomorrow. Have received points back for all bookings, but taxes for none.
