Hi All,

Quite new to this forum but am interested in hearing other people's opinions and suggestions.

I am looking for a new credit card and would like one that offers:
- flight reward points (prefer option to transfer to multiple airlines but if not then Qantas as I have some points with them already)
- Qantas Club lounge access
- bonus points upon sign up/first purchase

I'm currently tossing up between the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black and the Amex Platinum Edge for different reasons.
ANZ FF Black:
- Qantas FF points
- Qantas Club lounge access
- No joining fee first year
- 50k bonus points

Amex Platinum Edge:
- Points transfer to multiple airlines
- complimentary domestic flights (very enticing given that flights from Perth are quite expensive)
- 3:1 reward points at major supermarkets

In the long term I think the Amex would be more beneficial given the 3:1 ratio of points to the dollar and complimentary flight, however, I have a trip coming up in late August and love the idea of being able to relax in the lounge before the long haul flight.

Any opinions? Or suggestions for other cards?
I've done some research, however, am getting lost with all that is out there!!

Thanks in advance

With a name like that, you should feel comfortable churning your credit cards. ;) I consider my Amex Plat. Edge my "go-to" card, as my spend is mainly supermarket. The other cards that I have, aren't necessarily keepers, and I ditch them so that I can get some good sign on bonuses. I have both QF & VFF (MR) earning cards.

You should get both

Id suggest ANZ first as i believe they may scrutinise CC application more than AMEX. I had a friend rejected who makes double the min income.

My current setup that i never churn / gets with most of my spending
AMEX Edge
Citibank Signature VISA (free for life) works out at 1:1 on just about everything (exl ATO = 0)

Id recommend getting the Edge when it has a decent signon bonus (15,000 via a referral has been the highest i have seen recently) and also the Citibank signature when they have the free for life promotion. Both of these cards satisfy your multiple partners option (except Qantas)

Promo cards - Something that i have realised in last few years is that i spend alot on food / restaurant spend and a 3x card for that spend is very beneficial. AMEX has a velocity platinum card that offers 3x spend on restaurant and is currently having a 110,000 promo - check the referals thread.

If you know someone with AMEX they can refer you or you can ask someone on the forum to refer.

Enjoy

I bank with the CBA and am very happy with their bank-issued MasterCard and linked AMEX (a pair for business use and one for personal use). The CBA Awards scheme is good for domestic FF schemes - can be directed either to QFF (for a small fee and must be nominated up front), VFF (at any time) or (shudder) Flight Centre etc etc.

Depending on the type of card (Platinum, Diamond etc) you can get up to 3x CBA points/$AMEX spend for Diamond AMEX, and down from there to about 1 point/$ I think. They convert in to QFF and VFF points at 2:1 at best rate (Diamond card holder).

If you are on the CBA Wealth program, the card is fee free.

If you pay tax directly (ie self employed, or an employer) you definitely should check out this thread. Start at the end, but work back for as far as you can; it'll give you lots of ideas. CBA is OK for this use.

Also, there's currently an AMEX velocity card offer with up to 110,000 bonus velocity points on the table (plus VA lounge passes, a return VA flight pa etc!! Use a referral in this thread. I'm a QFF guy but this offer was too good to refuse, as I also recently tipped 300,000 CBA points into Velocity, so in all 250,000 VA points are going to be converted into SQ miles.

+1 for CBA diamond for QF points and then add a fee free for life Citi Signature for KF points

Rooflyer what is the conversion VA to SQ miles?
What do you get for the SQ miles ie Aust to where in J? Just a few examples.

You can convert VA to SQ miles on ratio of 1.35:1. So for that 110000 bonus VA miles, it is equivalent to 81481 Singapore Krisflyer miles. That would get you the following (for example):

1-way Suites A380 Sydney -Singapore - Hong Kong (63750 KF miles)
1-way Suites A380 Sydney - Singapore -Tokyo (80750 KF miles)
1-way Business Class A380/77W Sydney - Singapore - ALL European Cities (80750 KF miles)

So with the free domestic VA flight, and 2 free VA Lounge Pass, it is a fantastic deal with bonus 110K miles.

Yep that's a great deal!
