Hi guys

Happy new year!

I unfortunately started 2017 off by losing my pair of earphones onboard MH123 arriving into Sydney on 01 January. Staff on the MAB hotline have advised me to contact Sydney Airport's Lost and Found, but the airport's Lost and Found hotline seems to refer me back to the airline. The ground handling company, toll dnata, doesn't really seem to have to clue as to who I should be speaking to.

Do you guys know what the best course of action is in this instance?

Thanks ever so much for your advice. Much appreciated!

Cheers,
w.

If the item you lost was left onboard the MH flight then you need to contact the airline ie MH but I would start by asking the ground handler which is possibly Menzies Aviation.

You could call SYD Airport admin and ask them for the phone number for both Menzies and the MH Airport duty manager.

You would only call the airport lost property if sonething was left in the airport terminal or surrounds.

Good luck.

Hi ozbeachbabe

Thanks ever so much for the information.

For the benefit of other members, SYD have advised that the ground handler for MH are Toll Dnata and have provided a phone number - 1800 452 308 (for anyone who may need this in future).

They do not have the number for a duty manager at MH though unfortunately. All they have is the standard 13 26 27 contact number, which redirects you to the Malaysian call centre. When I rang them earlier, they said to contact the airport so we're going around in circles. :(

Cheers

Call back Toll Dnata & ask to speak to their baggage services people as they are the people who deal with missing items, lost luggage etc.

Just about every airline has a couple of their own staff on hand to meet flights, pay crew allowances, book crew hotels etc plus liaise with the ground handler re the checking in of the flight but obviously Toll don't want to give out that number because I'm sure the MH rep would refer the pax back to Toll.

The MH all centre would have no idea but I'm sure when they say "call the airport" they mean the ground handler who acts on behalf of MH not SYD Airport Corp or whatever they call themselves.

The owner of the airport has no authority to march onboard an aircraft looking for lost property nor to they have anything to do with lost baggage from a flight.
