Loud in the lounge

Not sure if I'm actually game to try it but I've thought of recording some of the conversation on my own phone and then playing it back at loud volume.

That would be illegal, there are restrictions on record people without their permission. At the best, in NSW for example, you can record someone for the purpose of assisting your memory. But only you can listen to the recording. If you play it to anyone else it's illegal.

Edit: actually I think you have to be (an active) part of the conversation to record it without permission.

OK then, let’s say I’m recording and playing back some of my own quiet musings and Loud Lady just happens to feature prominently from the background.
Anyway, it's not going to happen, I'll likely grin and bear as usual.

I have asked onceof a lound phone user
quietly; excuse me
then lound; shut the f up for the sake of those around you

It did work, I think through shock rather than any sense of consideration for others.

I reckon the only solution to this menace is to go to the bar and order/ make yourself a couple of long island Iced teas!!!!! It actually works!!

Just thought of a good one.

Stand or sit in front of the Loud Talker, with a notepad or clipboard and pretend to write stuff down when they say something remotely interesting.

In an AC on one occasion there was a fellow talking really loudly.Mrsdrron went and picked up the "Mobile phone free area" sign and placed it right in front of him.Believe me she is not to be messed with.

Last year I was in the FRA JAL lounge and someone decided it was a good idea to use Skype without any headphones. So not only was I forced to listen to both sides of the conversation, but when I moved they too decided to move just to annoy the rest of the people in the lounge (or just me maybe)

Not as bad as the bloke in the row in front of me on a domestic USA flight with inflight WiFi who used Skype to show his friends (several of them, one at a time!) around the cabin while holding his laptop at arms reach to keep his head in the shot. I ended up just flipping a one finger salute towards the camera and I heard one FA to tell him to quit it.

Learn to put up with it or stay at home.

I was in the BNE business lounge last Saturday morning and went to the desktops for a few minutes of quiet time only to find a Korean man standing up facing the tarmac and having a conversation on his mobile phone. The person on the other end must have been doing all the listening as this person did not stop talking. Talking? It was 'Huh', 'Huh', 'Huh' following almost every word or whatever it is they scream. It got very annoying to the point I just wanted to get up and smash his head against the windows but I just shut up and took it all like the insignificant human being I should be when I am out in public.

People are just scum and care about themselves only. I cannot come up with any other explanation and I should not have to sit in the lounge and listen to this cough.

Loving the responses - and experiences
Given me some great ideas for the next time it happens

I don't mind people talking on their phones quietly (when not in a phone free area) but it was when she was too lazy to stick it to her ear and put it on speaker that got up my nose!

Perhaps we can suggest to Qantas to buy a pink noise generator and run it in the lounges, its meant to eliminate someone being able to overhear conversations. Saw a story about it a few weeks back and it was claimed to increase productivity in an open plan office

Well I had the unpleasant experience a few weeks ago - I was in the pay lounge at LAX. Next thing I know this young guy in his twenties does the same thing, blabbing about how he was drinking champange. I thought 'here we go, another loud American' and yet this guy was an Aussie! Luckily after a few minutes another lounge user asked him to lower his voice. He was still talking into the phone but at least he toned it down so everyone in the lounge couldn't hear him.

Walk up to the woman's phone and ask the person on the other end if they were aware their conversation was being fully shared with all the people nearby.

Or say something like 'hey can you hurry up there are other people waiting to use the loo! Or at least flush 'cause it stinks!'.

I was relaxing in the BNE QP and a female asked if she could sit with me. She was holding her phone and wasn't carrying any bags. I told her that if she planned to talk on her phone the answer was no. She gave me a surprised look then walked off.

The "Cone of Silence" perhaps - Get Smart.

I must be jinxed - or this is a common issue?

Sitting in the First class lounge in Sydney in the restaurant and this guy next to me starts a Skype video call with a mate - at least he has the decency to speak quietly and close to the screen (not sure what it looked like to the other party with his nose up against the screen). Then he hands it to his partner who has a loud voice and squawks away to the other person for a few minutes......I almost choked on my salt and pepper squid :D! - fortunately she handed it back to "Lloydy" to continue a much quieter conversation.

Now he's walking around the lounge showing the other party the sights....

That iPhone is going to be shoved somewhere unnatural if this carries on!

FFS I thought this was a high class joint!

Maybe the QF Club (and even the DJ Lounge) need to have those 'No Loud Conversations' signs around, just like No Smoking signs. Clearly you need to treat adults like children and point out the obvious............
