Hi all,

So my wife and I are just finishing up a quick trip from Melbourne to Sydney and back again with VA. Heading into the trip I was sitting on 480 SC for my rolling 12 months, so I booked Elevate fares both ways for each of us (15 SC per person per leg - taking me to 510 SC at the completion of the first leg as we use family pooling to my account).

As the first flight of our trip was on a Sunday the credits haven’t come through yet (Monday afternoon), but I proceeded to the desk at the lounge to plead my case.

I was promptly turned away with the polite ladies at the desk saying that “they can’t see flight history, points, or credits, only level (Red, Silver, Gold etc.)”. I tried showing my itinerary and boarding passes from the previous flight but was told “until you are Gold you aren’t Gold”.

Am I right to be annoyed at this? I understand they are following procedure to the letter, but I have spent a few extra dollars to obtain status with VA and would like think that this carries a bit of value.

Keen to hear everyone’s thoughts.

Frustrating, but it is their policy - QF are the same (been there :()

In my opinion no.

The terms and conditions are quite explicit, attain the requisite number of status credits and once in your account you will be given lounge access and other benefits.

The staff at the front desk have other duties to perform and checking your statement and BPs aren't one of them.

It's frustrating but the lounge agents aren't really focused on status credits posting and reaching certain levels. To the extent that I'd recommend timing your lounge visits for when you've had a clear period of sufficient time to get the status needed. This can be annoying with VA where sometimes it takes a week or more (IME) for the SCs to post.

Just be thankful that you are not waiting weeks and weeks for some JQ points and SC to post.

Yes... you are Gold backdated to the date of flight, but value only starts flowing when it is visible

And the other question is what happens when the flight is on the last day of the anniversary and you need the SC to maintain tier . The SC credits to the date of flight so tied is maintained.

Them's the breaks unfortunately.

My qualifying flight for QF gold was on BA metal. I made mention of it. No lounge, but I did get an op-up on the flight itself. (JFK-LHR)
