Has anything been confirmed re lounge access when flying EK for QP's? From what I can tell DXB access is sorted, but things further (or in our case closer) afield is still an unknown, nothing confirming that it is happening, but nothing confirming it isn't.

I'm wanting to book a trip to AKL next year in April with the family, the thought of taking the kids on an A380 is appealing, but lounge access is also a nice to have.

I want to know this too! Looks like I will be travelling EK a bit next year but beyond just DXB.

In short, nothing further has been announced, and nothing more will be until the ACCC grants an interim authorisation rather than just a draft ruling

AFAIK, they were saying if you book on a QF flight number you would be able to get access to a Qantas operated Business Lounge as per usual.

Good question, also how many guest you can have

I reckon the number of guests would be the same as now. Can't have too many different permutations for lounge dragons to work out and for AFFers to game the system.

I presume the Lounge access in LHR for WP / F Pax is unchanged at this stage?

I guess it will probably depend on which airline you fly into London on. EK or QF. If your on an EK plane then really it's not a OW flight so accessing BA's lounges would seem to be out if the question.

Presumably if you arrive on a QF flight then you would use the BA lounge, but if on an EK flight then an EK lounge.

AusBT does go onto say that this may change if/when EK introduces an equivalent 4th tier....
I'm sure Skywards members would not be happy if the knew QF Plats could go in the F Lounge flying Y/J, whereas no level of Skywards could do the same

Over on AusBT, they have some info re lounge access and other FF info. Qantas frequent flyers: what points, perks do you get on Emirates? - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

Seems that Qantas WP will only get access to EK's business lounge at Dubai. :(

So much for AJ's promise "where Qantas Frequent Flyer and Emirates Skywards status privileges aren't in sync, "we’ve agreed to make the higher benefit our standard" .

Still some work to do, Qantas Silver frequent flyers unless they were Qantas Club didn't have lounge access.

Looks like Gold is the sweet spot, Qantas platinum isn't going to get First lounge access in Dubai.

I hope that in London Emirates/Qantas lounge is combined or you are going to have a lot of annoyed Qantas Club members who won't have a lounge to use. Shared lounges really don't cut it.

This for me pretty much discredits the article. I note that skywards silver get lounge access in Dubai but QF silver members do not get lounge access at all. If QF interpret Silver as getting lounge access then two steps above that is Platinum with F lounge access. QF would then have to grant lounge access to QF PS in all domestic QPs as well which the system couldn't absorb.

It would just be easier if EK introduces a WP tier and align everything against the existing QF structure.

That doesn't solve the problem whereby AJ said that where a benefit is higher the higher benefit will be put in place.

Given that Skywards Silver get lounge access in Dubai then in theory QF Silver should get lounge access in Australia...

Although Qantas have stated that you will need to be Skywards Gold to access Qantas lounges in Australia.

AFAIK, allowing Skywards silver into the lounge is only applicable to one lounge (at Gate C22) across the network. And that lounge is closed for refurbishment anyway.

I think we might find once EK WP is introduced they might remove lounge access from PS. Then again doesnt solve QP access?

Deja vu .... From that article:

Qantas says that a Qantas Club card will also provide entry to "the Emirates lounge in Dubai Airport", while a spokesperson for the airline told Australian Business Traveller that the possibility of access to Emirates Lounges around the world remains a work in progress.

Please, Alan, not the same individual who was supposedly sorting out the BA T5 mess for over 12months!!

AusBT changed their posting. So even they don't know. They initially said Qantas QP would have access to the EK Business Lounges in Dubai then later editied it to :
What about Qantas Platinum (and Platinum One) cardholders? Their lot is less sure, because we don't yet know what the lounge privileges of the promised equivalent level for Skywards will shape up.
Complicating a clean match is that while the Red Roo permits Platinum access to Qantas first class lounges regardless of what class you're flying on, the Emirates First Class Lounge is restricted to travellers holding a first class ticket.

Why even post things at all when they clearly have no idea?

That makes sense. Thanks

I presume the access to EK lounges by skywards silver is about pax in Y. If the have a J ticket then lounge access is a given.
I was thinking about this in relation to my own situation when my flying becomes less frequent. If I fly in J I get access anyway. Status then loses some of its appeal. Mind you the higher earning rate etc is attractive . I suppose this could open more debate on what type of frequent flying should get F lounge access.
Do the fly In fly out (mining) brigade get access just because they are plat. Or should the lounge be reserved for premium fare Pax?
That being F and J pax.
I like the access that being WP gives me to domestic Biz lounges and while I have had the luxury of the F lounge in Sydney just the once , it probably would NOT upset me TOO much not to get access to it were I not flying in F or J. ( well maybe just a little)

If the lounge access in QP / QP Biz and F lounge, be restricted to a combination of status and fare type, ( i. e. Y pax regardless of status would no longer get access to say F or Dom Biz lounge) would this encourage us to not hoard points as much and upgrade to J more often, or would it be counter productive and cause a minor revolt in the ranks? And see many defect to VA ?

It strikes me that a benefit once given which is then taken away is far worse than if not given in the first place.
It could be that making SG & WP more difficult to achieve would address this, thus making it harder to access lounges anyway.

Some would say, " A privilege too easily earned is not really a privilege".
In any event, while the profitability of airlines remains a problem, they are likely to keep fighting for the FF regardless.
