Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions regarding what Airport Lounges are available at specific airports when travelling on specific airlines. While one can be assured of access at the airline lounge when travelling on that airline (provided you have Lounge membership), thing start to get complex when travelling on a codeshare or partner airline.

Posting Guidelines
Please post your questions about Lounge access in this thread. Be sure to include the airline you are travelling on, the airport (and terminal, if known), and any Airline Status or Airport Lounge membership programs you have.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

(Special thanks to Princess Fiona for suggesting this new thread.)

Re: Access to EK lounge at Singapore on QF J ticket?

Likely to be booking the following in the coming weeks:

SYD-LAX QF in F

Then at a later time will book:

LAX-LAS AA in Y

Will be a same day connection but potentially on different tickets. I have no status. Do I still have access to lounges in LAX as per the One World same day connection rule or is this no longer valid if on different tickets?

Not quite the answer to your question but after booking the TransPac flight you could ring up and ask to add the domestic connection. At least then you would be on the same PNR.

The same day connection rule makes no mention of flights needing to be on the same itinerary. Just hold onto your boarding pass from the F flight and you should be fine.

You must be prepared to show your boarding pass or itinerary showing travel in First or Business class on the international long haul flight, in order to access the lounge before your international short haul or domestic flight.

Worth noting that the QF LAX lounge has a poor track record of following the rules, so take a copy of the oneworld lounge access policy with you just in case.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll be looking to do that IF both are available as awards. Can they still be joined if I end up having to pay cash for the domestic flight?

Thanks for that. Will make sure I have a copy in case.

Re: Access to EK lounge at Singapore on QF J ticket?

So now I'm at the lofty heights of QFWP (P1 is no hope), can anyone advise if that gives me PX Paradise lounge access when booked through PX and travelling on PX metal? Or alternatively, QF lounge access if on PX?

Lounges may include BNE, CNS, POM, HGU and GKA.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

If I were to use QF pts to book a CX flt F FRA-HKG then J HKG-MEL would I be eligible to use F or J Lounge in HKG?

If you are connecting CX->CX same day, you will have access to the F lounge. This goes over and above oneworld rules, but applies by virtue of your inbound CX F flight. You will be issued lounge invites for HKG during checkin at FRA. it should read F, but if not, show your inbound boarding pass for lounge entry in HKG.

If the onward flight is next day, or on QF, you'll have to use the J class lounge (although the Pier J class lounge is pretty much on par with most F lounges anyway).

I should point out this is a 'soft' rule, not hard. It's not within oneworld rules, or explicitly stated in cx's rules. But in reality they look after their F pax well. The lounge invite in FRA will make it easy, if it doesn't say F lounge, you can ask, or else turn up and ask at the lounge itself. There may be times, I guess, when the F lounge is full (take the other night when the average delay for PVG flights was 12 hours ex HKG), and they might need to rely on the rules due to capacity constraints.

Not lounge access but think that WP can use first class check in 'suite' in MEL when flying Y NZ?

To be clear, the oneworld rules provide such access as follows:

Connecting between oneworld marketed and operated flights:
  • First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 6am the following day, can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul (a oneworld international long haul flight is defined as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than 5 hours) and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa).
  • Lounge access will be determined on the international long haul ticketed flight (either First of Business Class) regardless of the ticketed class of travel on the international short haul or domestic flight.
  • You must be prepared to show your boarding pass or itinerary showing travel in First or Business class on the international long haul flight, in order to access the lounge before your international short haul or domestic flight.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

The oneworld rules wouldn't allow it, but CX's own (soft rules) permit it. When considering intra-airline connections, many have rules more generous than those listed on the OW page.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Important to note that the OW connecting rule also works if the F flight is the connecting (2nd) flight rather than just the arriving (1st) flight.

This is FRA-(CX First)-xHKG-(CX Business)-MEL (Same day connection at HKG); this is Long-Haul to Long-Haul so not directly indicated, but in practice the same rule is generally applied.
