Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions regarding what Airport Lounges are available at specific airports when travelling on specific airlines. While one can be assured of access at the airline lounge when travelling on that airline (provided you have Lounge membership), thing start to get complex when travelling on a codeshare or partner airline.

Posting Guidelines
Please post your questions about Lounge access in this thread. Be sure to include the airline you are travelling on, the airport (and terminal, if known), and any Airline Status or Airport Lounge membership programs you have.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

(Special thanks to Princess Fiona for suggesting this new thread.)

Flying Qantas CBR-SYD at 1900 and then SYD-CHC via Emirates F the next morning at 0730. Booked with points in the same itinerary. Would this give me access to the CBR J lounge due to the mixed class ticket?

Currently in discussions with Qantas FF regarding this and getting mixed answers, including an email from the FF team confirming Points Club Plus has access to all business class lounges (This was in a domestic context).

I’m going to hazard a guess that the answer to this is no.
It’s a different day of departure.

Hi All,

Got a question around lounge access given I had an unexpected experience.

Flew CX Business (Classic Reward redemption, not that i think that should make a difference) from SYD-HKG. I was given a lounge invite pass at checkin for Qantas Business Lounge or The House. I used the lounge pass at The House on the assumption that given my class of travel i would be let into the Qantas business lounge. When i got to the business lounge they asked for my lounge invite pass and wasn't very thrilled when i lied and said i didn't have one.

They still let me in, which is my expectation due to travel class.

Whats your take on the situation?

The reason i ask is, i'm flying out of HKG tomorrow on QF128 and have been an upgrade via Classic Upgrade Rewards.

Should i expect to be able to access all the CX business lounges (given my travel class) or should i expect to get a lounge invite?

I've never had this on a oneworld carrier but have once had it occur flying EVA Business out of Vienna (star alliance class of travel rules are the same). In theory the answer is yes your class of travel should mean there are no issues accessing either or both the house and QF J lounge.

In theory I'd say Cathay is the problem here as they've come up with the pass system likely in a result to try and reduce double billing however as QF follows oneworld rules that's why they've reluctantly let you in (had it been the other way around and QF had taken your pass then it's highly likely you would have been denied at the house).

All that being said I've never had an issue with a Qantas boarding pass and so I don't expect you'd have any pushback at the CX lounges but recent reviews of the QF business lounge at HKG have suggested it's even better then the CX J options now they've reopened.

This is exactly why i used the lounge pass at The House first, i've been to the Qantas Business lounge plenty of times, but hadn't been to the The House and i expected zero push back to entering the Qantas lounge after the fact.

I’ve got plenty of hours to kill in HKG, so hoping to explore all the CX lounges.

Fingers crossed and I’ll report back

Unlikely by the published rules; you'll likely have to make do with your Qantas Club membership
Correct, I misread the rules regarding long haul vs short haul international and the 6am the next day is the cut off for that next day departure.
QFF did honor the email I received and given me access to the J lounge for this trip which is appreciated.

But also the rules for long haul to short haul and B4 6am apply to oneworld? Of which EK is not part.

Unless there’s a special arrangement between QF and EK. there used to be, and lounge access for connecting domestic sectors was granted based on the long haul flight, but that seems to have gone from the rules.

According to the FF manager they do still follow the One World guidelines for the partnership in regards to domestic sectors which keeps it simple. I struggled to find any specific emirates rules regarding it.

Welcome to AFF @chrisj

That should not be an issue if you already have your EK boarding pass.

Unfortunately, I don't believe you will get access in MEL, as JQ are not a member of oneworld, and that's where the highest ticketed cabin rule for lounge access on same-day travel comes from (Edit to add, per post below - only applies where you are on an international short haul (<5 hours) or domestic flight that connects to an international long haul flight). If you had been on a Qantas/QF award flight (operated by QF or a oneworld carrrier), it would have worked out.

Can't hurt to ask; but be prepared to spend your time elsewhere in MEL.

Cheers,
Matt.

The oneworld rules are long haul connecting to short haul or domestic, or v.v. Long haul = 5+ hours.

Even if JQ was part of oneworld, or the flight MEL-SIN had been on QF, it would not have qualified because the poster’s travel is long haul to long haul. Not short to long.

Ahh - wasn't aware it was limited to 5 hours... I thought it may have been only where it was the shorter flight, but coun't find the rules on the ow site before now. In any event, unfortunately it's not possible on this booking.

Cheers,
Matt.

Oneworld lounge access on the OW site, but go to ‘class of service’.

Hi everyone,

I have a coming CX flight depart from SYD-HKG travel in Premium Economy cabin and have a connecting flight to ICN travel in Business cabin. I know I can access the lounge in HKG due to the 2nd sector travel class, but will Cathay give lounge access for the 1st sector? I know if I travel Business in the 1st sector, I will get lounge access for the whole trip, but not sure in my case, as the 1st sector is longer than the 2nd one. Thanks.
