Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions regarding what Airport Lounges are available at specific airports when travelling on specific airlines. While one can be assured of access at the airline lounge when travelling on that airline (provided you have Lounge membership), thing start to get complex when travelling on a codeshare or partner airline.

Posting Guidelines
Please post your questions about Lounge access in this thread. Be sure to include the airline you are travelling on, the airport (and terminal, if known), and any Airline Status or Airport Lounge membership programs you have.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

(Special thanks to Princess Fiona for suggesting this new thread.)

Our family is lucky to be travelling on an Emirates flight from Brisbane to Athens in mid June. There is a 5 hour layover in Dubai. Wife and I have business class access to the Emirates Business Lounge in Dubai. Daughter, husband and three children (aged 10 years and under) are flying with us but down in economy. They have American Express Platinum cards.

Questions:
What lounges do the children and grandchildren currently have access to in Dubai?
What would be required to provide them with access to the Emirates Business Lounge?
Do Emirates produce lounge access cards? If so, where could I acquire them?

Thanks in advance for any advice 🙏
If traveling with EK in J, then you and your wife should both have the ability to guest another pax each on the same flight into one of the DXB J lounges (EDIT: Assuming not on a discount/special EK fare), however that still leaves you with their 3 kids, who are treated as guests, unless you are flying on the QF code and have QF status, in which case you'd like be able to guest in 2 of them. May be worth a shot on the day to see if they'll allow the kids in, but I'd prepare for the likelihood that it's not happening without coughing up A$750 for the 3 x entry fees.

Unless you can find a place to spend time together outside of a lounge, then perhaps they'll be better off at one of the AmEx options, under their Priority Pass (assumes the Platinum charge card, rather than a Platinum credit card). There'd still be fees doing that, as well (children are additional guests), but not anywhere near as high as the EK costs. AmEx DXB lounge options are here: https://www.americanexpress.com/en-au/travel/lounges/the-platinum-card/DXB

Cheers,
Matt.

Two questions… I didn’t think EK business class on its own had the ability to guest?

Secondly, whether the OP has lounge access at a lol may depend on their business class fare. The ‘business special’ has no access, only business saver and above.

Skywards members with status can guest. And if the OP is on a Qantas code, they should able to guest, but does that extend to the children of extended family?

If they have access on their own ticket, then they can bring a guest on the same flight through travel class or status. It's true if they are on a discount/special class then no-one would have access; hopefully that's not the case for the OP.

Good ask on the children, and in fact on reviewing the rules there for QFF members, it seems that there is zero separate child guest allowance [ is that new, or it was always zero?]. They do allow child guests for EK Skywards elites in addition to an adult guest.

I am grateful for everybody's input into my enquiries. Didn't realise lounge access was so complicated. Might have to take a lawyer along with me to argue our case for the grandchildren :) 🙏 Wish us luck!

The court was confident until those later arguments were entered into evidence. I’m afraid your case is pretty much closed. My advice: Send the family off to Maccas and hit the EK champagne bar with the Mrs 😎 You’ll see them in Greece
