lounge access - International Flights?

I'm looking at booking flight to the USA with United.
Should I be doing it on the Virgin or United website?
Also does anyone know if they have a lounge at Sydney International Airport that is being used and will I still be able to take my guest and 2 kids like I used to when I flew on Virgin planes to the USA ?

If the prices are about equal, I would always choose to book via the metal of the plane that I’ll be flying on. As it will be less complicated if changes are needed such as a schedule change and/or reticketing. That is, if it’s United flying, book with United.

Can’t help with lounge access etc sorry.

Lounge access for Gold (per your profile) is 1 guest inclusive of children for United lounges. Note that you won't have access in the US on domestic trips. Need to have an international component.

Others may have more "on the ground" info. Whether you can access the Star Alliance partner lounges (SIA or Air NZ) will need some more digging.

I read somewhere that SIA lounge is offered for Velocity status holders in Sydney since United doesn't have a lounge here.
"Velocity Gold and Platinum members departing on a same day United Airlines operated service in Economy or Premium Economy Class from either Melbourne or Sydney will have access to the Singapore Airlines lounges, whereas travellers in Business Class will have lounge access based on United Airlines’ own policy. "

SQ lounge in SYD or MEL on a UA codeshare flight for Plats. Not sure about Brisbane when that starts late October (may depend on whether VA choses to use Swissport (My Lounge) or Plaza Premium in BNE).

Will almost certainly be 1 guest only
VA and QF (and Amex) are industry outliers in letting children of status members into their lounges over and above guest limits

Edit: a bit of digging around found AC 50k status allows domestic partners + up to 5 children and a guest into their lounges

After the revamp a huge and attractive lounge. It used to have a not very different First Class section inside, but that was quietly removed.

As a lifetime Star Gold I sometimes used the SQ Lounges - Biz or First … the Dragons there were never keen on that - ALWAYS suggesting the Air NZ lounge was a nearby choice, but Star rules OK'd it.

I second that; Air NZ lounge is FAR better than the small, and often very crowded, SQ lounge.
