Lounge Hitchhikers

I'd invite a person in if we randomly strike up a conversation and they appear to be a nice person, but probably would not if someone just came up to me and asked upfront. You never know what sort of person they might be

I was approached outside the lounges last month in AKL by a young bloke asking if I was flying with Emirates. I said no as I was heading to the Qantas lounge first. Went to the Emirates Lounge shortly after and was asked by the lounge angel if I had been approached by someone downstairs. Told her I had and she called security to move him along, he had been standing there asking everyone after having been denied access on his own.

I haven't never been approached, but these days major airports have plenty of services and food outlets why waste time asking when you could be actually sitting down have the coffee albeit for for a few dollars.

I suspect these people are not only after one cup of coffee ;)
The post you quoted about EK AKL, I'm pretty sure it was an evening flight so the lounge would have some decent f&b at that time.

I've done it once in MEL domestic. Approached by middle aged trio downstairs, 2 who could gain access in their own right, wanting me to guest one in. They seemed to be toying up who would stay outside and appeared embarrassed to ask. My first instinct was no way, but it was a quiet weekend just after Xmas and I thought "why not". If it was someone solo or I sensed any attitude of entitlement, I'd knock them back without a second thought.

Not noticed "lice" but did see encounter at Cairns QP where a young lady on entering was questioned at front desk about "her" QP card. Apparently it was Dads and eventually after pleading "I didn't know I had to have a card" was relieved of Dads QP card and refused entry. Dad may no longer have a valid card ...

I was waiting behind a family to have my FF card swiped at the desk and could hear them having a heated conversation with the lounge agent about the number of people the father could guest in. The agent wasn't budging and said they had one too many people (who were children!). I was travelling solo and went forward and told the agent that their second child could go against my account. Sorted! I am sure most people would be happy to help in this situation.

If you are short of entitlement try checking in online and forwarding your boarding pass to a different friends mobile

I imagine Qantas will have a very stern talking to Dad and he may get to enjoy the paid airport food facilities in the future.

Or he could simply say "I had no idea that little brat took my Qantas club card from my wallet!". And get away with it?

Exactly what I was thinking.
If it's the first time getting caught they will both get away with it.

I have no issues with 'lounge hitchhikers'. If they ask politely I might just let them in as my guest. After all, if you never ask, you never get anything.

I've never been approached by anyone, or seen anyone loitering, but I haven't traveled solo since I've had lounge access. Prior to that I've met nice people in the check-in/security lines that Ive struck up a convo with, and would've guested them had I had access..
