Hi all,

I'm flying QF LAX>BNE in Y+ early Jan 2018. I'll most likely have about 9 hours to kill at LAX before departing (sigh) and am looking at my lounge options.
I have no status with QF or OW, Mr & Mrs deva are both VA gold only. I only hold AMEX Platinum Edge & Explorer cards (So I assume this does me no good?).

Looking for options to gain lounge access:
  • Status match to a OW airline?
  • Paid single time access? (We'll have a 1.5yr old with us)
  • Other genius ideas?

Or do I do something that doesn't require being at the terminal? Thoughts?

Appreciative of any ideas that anyone has.

Probably not what you want to hear, but you can join Qantas Club and gain access to the One World Lounge. I was there 5 days ago. It's pretty good.

This doesn't solve your lounge issue, but with 9 hours to kill and 1.5 yr old, I would look to get out of the airport for a bit. Manhattan Beach is close by and a nice place to spend a few hours - there are restaurants, shops and cafes, a boardwalk by the beach and a pier or two to walk out on.

The Tom Bradley terminal is much nicer than it used to be so would save the money on paid lounge access and have a meal in one of the restaurants over a couple of hours.

As Dr Ralph mentioned buying a QANTAS Club membership would be the best option.

Considering that the lounge is very busy at LAX with multiple QF flights departing around the same time and that it's a OneWorld lounge I highly doubt that paid single time access would be ever offered for this flight.

I started this thread when LAX was much less convivial than at present, but its still relevant to long-ish transits at LAX. 9 hours or so is way too long for a lounge!

With a 1.5yr old, and 9hrs, i'd be heading landside and heading to the beach or a park etc,.

9h to kill after a long flight and before another? forget any lounges.

As others say I'd head to the beach or some other place to get out and into the air, sunshine etc

and/or a day rate at a LAX hotel to catch some sleep, refresh, shower etc - the cost of that would probably only be marginally more than a lounge day pass and be SO much better for all involved I would imagine.

my 2 cents.

As mentioned, flying W and without status, the only lounge options are going to be paid access such as the Qantas Club (TBIT oneworld J lounge) or Admirals Club (AA T4).

With 9 hours between flights, I'd look at heading into the city for a bit. With road transport to Hollywood or DTLA taking about 20-40 mins each way (depending on traffic), you'd be able to spend around 6 hours in the city before you'd need to head back to LAX.
