Note: The above clause 20.5.1 will be effective until 30 June 2013. Please see below for the new clause 20.5.1 that will be effective from 1 July 2013.

20.5.1 Members will earn a Loyalty Bonus of 8,000 points for every 500 Status credits earned on flights with a Qantas (QF) flight number (including partner airline flights with a Qantas (QF) flight number) within a single membership year - up to a maximum of four Loyalty Bonuses per membership year.
20.5.2 Status credit balances relating to the calculation of the Loyalty Bonus will be adjusted to recognise only those earned within the Member's current membership year. Status credits earned in previous membership years will not be recognised in the calculation of the Loyalty Bonus.
The change to the Loyalty Bonus does not impact the Status credits you earn which go towards tier retention.

Shame it doesn't include Jetstar airlines as well :(

I guess it would if you can get a ticket with the QF number on it. e.g. QF5929. But I'm not sure how you can do that. If you have a ticket with JQ929, for example, could you argue that it does have a QF flight number attached to the flight i.e. QF5929...?

'tis strange wording - would have thought they would have just said where QF is the marketing carrier...

That is quite a change :(

Either way, the capping of loyalty bonuses is an enormous own goal for Qantas. I generally hit 2,000 SCs in 3-6 months and then for the rest of the year I have the text "Congratulations you have achieved the maximum amount of Loyalty bonuses for the year" on my summary page encouraging me to fly with other airlines...

In many ways it is quite a clever change, (although I would have included JQ into this as well). I guess it follows the concept "loyalty bonus" not "fly lots of other OW airlines and we'll give you a bonus" as well.

I reached P1 in September with 2 months to spare so put about half of my domestic QF travel to VA (where it works - and that is a big ask with VA when doing regional Australia in/out of PER) as it was a waste of QF SC (4000 this year is enough) - so I am 40% to Plat renewal in 5 weeks and only 7 weeks into the Velocity year.

Wow, QF you sneaky little bugger

From 500 SC on any OW eligible airline, to now QF numbers only. Sneaky sneaky sneaky.

Thinking evil thoughts, I wonder if the next "enhancement" will be 2400 SC on QF flight numbers for "additional Platinum benefits " ?
This might just be the start

It was a QFF loyalty bonus rather than a QF loyalty bonus.

I guess it isn't much of a loss now that it is capped to four earns in a year.

Sneaky change indeed, good for those with membership years switching over soon so they can maximise the existing accrual system.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using AustFreqFly

I know this "enhancement" affects everyone but I see it as further diluting Platinum benefits.

In my situation I may earn 3 x loyalty bonuses in a year and I would only have ~600-800SCs on QF flights which means my loyalty would worth only 8,000 QFF points.

Not really good enough....

They have always been sneaky.. Things aren't ever going to get any better.. Just more 'smoke & mirrors"..

Here's hoping that they introduce a new loyalty bonus that is independent of $ (i.e. SCs) and dependent on ~. I would say 5,000 per 10 ~ would be fair ;)
