NM, there's havoc in Atlanta and DFW areas. I had a pleasant flight to Atlanta and made a crawl to the Admirals Club. Shock and horror when they advised my flight to Dallas was delayed for a few hours. So to keep up with the dfw-den and den-lax flights, I took an another AA flight to dfw but had to sit in Y. I am glad i did otherwise I would have had a nightmare to re-arrange all the remaining sectors.

Anyway, I have just arrived in Denver now. I have no idea if my luggage will be in lax for the flight to Sydney. I was to clear the luggage and re-check with QF. Will keep my fingers crossed.

Sounds like you may be needing to exchange those drinks vouchers for something stronger than coffee. Good luck the bags. You could ask the AC to try to determine if your bags are actually on the flight with you or if they were left behind in ATL ot DFW. They may not be able to find out, but may be worth asking.

I guess if you have any fligths through US/UK you cant avoid checking baggage. US no liquids and UK only one bag - simply not feasible to travel like that. I now try and minimise hand luggage and check bags. Still trying to find the ideal luggage arrangement at the moment though.

Actually whole EU now has tighter restrictions - both no liquids (ala US) and size and quantity limits (ala UK). :( I think I posted about this on my blog a while back.

I wonder if there has been a reduction in the sales of carryon/rollaboard luggage given there must implicitly be more checked luggage now. As I said before I am going to small hand luggage now as I have to check luggage so there is no point lugging around stuff that can be checked.

I travelled AA within the US twice last month. The first time was economy and they were very fussy about the weight, anything beyond about 52 pounds they were going to charge us extra for.

The 2nd flight was at the end of my trip & had bought quite a bit of stuff (lots actually). Had several bags by then and went to a LOT of trouble carefully weighing each case to ensure we kept to only 50 pounds, even bought an elcheapo scale to do this as the hotel didn't have one. This trip was in first class and guess what? They didn't even bother to weigh the bags. I checked the weight just out of interest but the AA checkin staff didn't so much as glance at the scale.

Maybe it depends upon the class, maybe upon the staff.... dunno!

My wife and I have just got back from the States and this is a problem. QF let you have 2 cases @32kg but when you fly AA or someone else what do you do if you are already over.

My wife said that all hotels should have a scale as this must be a problem for many of their guests.

How true! We stayed at Marriott on our last night in Boston and got a blank look when I asked them about a weighing scale. Ended up travelling several miles to Walmart to buy a cheap one. I left it with them when we checked out (for others to use) but I doubt that it registered with the staff who could barely understand why I needed it in the first place.

While shopping there I saw a range of luggage that had a digital scale built in, but they were a bit pricey and didn't look all that special for the money.

Happy to report got 360 SCs for 4 sectors.:D
Bags followed me to Sydney a day late and had them delivered home. I now have a bundle of those vouchers though they expressly state they cannot be used other than on the day of issue (stamped) and place of issue. More of a collection then anything of value. I do feel though they may be accepted with a tip.;)

Good to see it all worked out for you in the end.

Maybe we could sell the expired drinks vouchers (I have a swag of them also) on EBay.

I saw a coupleof these lieing around in LAX and wondered if it was politic to pick them up...

well, on the incoming trip to lax from syd, i used one 2005 voucher by putting a $1 tip on top to camouflage it. At dfw, this trick didnt succeed so i used valid voucher. But my experience in some clubs was the issue of couple of more vouchers. This happened in lax and dfw where there are two levels - entry and then upper level where facilities are. In den, I made a good suggestion to the staff member and she happily offered to give another two vouchers. All in all, positive experience. BTW, the only full dinner service was den-lax being evening service. Comp drinks too.
