Good idea! I'll be looking at this closely as I'm looking at upgrading my "long haul" bag in the next few months (currently I've got a soft case samsonite and looking to go to hardcase).

We bought Mrs tmdellit a Samsonite Cosmolite 81cm (Samsonite Cosmolite 3 81cm Spinner - Samsonite AU) about 5-6 years ago as her main "long haul" bag. Has no doubt been bashed around on everything from Emirates to EasyJet, but never had an issue.

Also grabbed a couple of matching Carry-ons (Samsonite Cosmolite 3 55cm Spinner - Samsonite AU) which have been unreal. Mine has probably been on upwards of 200 flights both as cabin baggage, and checked in, and apart from a few scuffs, is as good as the day we bought it. Furthermore, it also doubles as my seat whenever I have to wait somewhere (not bad considering my 90kg frame).

Don't get me wrong, they're expensive (though I didn't pay the $$ that the Samsonite website says that they're worth), but I really can't fault them.

Sorry no pics of how they're fairing, but the links should show you what they look like new.

Look forward to seeing what others have to say!

I have exactly the same combo and cannot fault thus far. As mentioned, I paid no where near advertised prices.

Now this is a bag! just saw it in the local op shop for an absolute bargain of $20. They speak of retro, but this is a classic. Note the TSA locks, secure fittings and the wood struts for protection from baggage handlers. And the inside, beautifully lined, in a sickly brown, but the soft pocket for toiletries was a gem. Even comes with bonus stickers....... I'm sure it would last me all of, say, one trip!

And this one is even better, a retro Samsonite 1960's, all with aluminium trim! Inside lining could do with a bit of a tidy-up. I was going to buy it, but colour is not be best, but a buy at $15. But the best bargain was the Antler at $5!!!!bag1.jpgbag2.jpgbag3.jpg

After all the bag shopping, and horrified with some of the prices and design + the bag repair shop had no spares, I decided to have a go and fix the Samsonite. After being told the wheel was no good, pulling it off revealed that it simply needed tightening. A few well place small screws in the other parts, some oil and the bag will do another 100,000 miles I hope, but will least make 250,000.
