I had a look at their rates in Victoria last year, and they were on the high side if you signed up on the Amex plan.

I worked all this out earlier this year. The Lumo Amex rate was much higher than the standard Lumo rate per kWh and not worth it. By the time you have amassed enough points for a J rtn to Europe (256k with QFF) you will have spent $5659 more on the Amex tariff. Add $1000 for taxes and you're up to $6,659 - not far short of the full cash price of the specials from Etihad or Emirates!

Thanks very much for that post Duffa, helps me out as I was seriously considering joining Lumo.

Can you point out the 2 different rates. From what I can see there is only one price

I got the two rates by ringing Lumo. I had suspected that the Amex rate would be higher and it was.
I factored in the pay on time discount for both the off peak and peak rates. And the fact that is 6 points not 10 per $.
I not at home so can't get the actual rates. But it was about 13 % higher for Amex. Finally the new rates start from 1 April so I'll need to redo the whole exercise.

Can you report back? :)

I assume the Amex rate is the same as the Virgin Velocity rate....

Just finished the exercise with Lumo regular and Velocity/Amex (which are the same)

Earning 256k points will cost $4540 in higher tariffs. Still seems a bit steep

These are the PRE-RISE rates
