Mac vs. Windows

Re: Watch this space

Yes, if you connect a mouse with 3 buttons. Funny, my Windows PC at work only has two buttons - how do I middle click on that?

Indeed. I've never heard of this middle click. Have experience the complete stuff up that happens when click on the roller of a mouse in windows. But that just makes me think Microsoft had to sack someone.

And does one middle click on a mac?

Depends what you think a middle click does?

On Macs I've found that usually opens a link in a new tab... in Windows it seems to enable a scrolling mechanism that isn't necessary thanks to the multi-touch surface on my mac's mouse :p

Glad to see these posts have been separated out from the original thread that they invaded. Unsubscribing ;).

Re: Watch this space

Ok, here's an example. You have a program you want to run on startup.

In Windows, you:
- Drag the program icon over the Start button
- The Start menu expands, and you drop the program icon in the Startup folder

On a Mac, you:
- Open the System Preferences
- Choose Accounts from the View menu
- Click your user name
- Click the Login Items button
- Click the Add button
- Locate the program you want to add

I would argue the Windows method is less complex, and significantly more intuitive.

Uh'? on my iMac click on the program in bottom bar and it opens, if its a prog. one doesn't use often its two clicks away in HD/Applications.

And Apple comes with more free programs than you can point a stick at.

A friend, an officer in the armed forces (now ret.) used DOS/Windows for 25 years, got an Apple Mac after seeing mine said he could not believe how easy it was and wondered why he ever used windows.

Re: Watch this space

The MAC has always presented a consistent interface to the user. With Windows, applications do their own thing. This means that for Windows you need to learn each application separately, in the MAC you only learn the common interface (the old situation where some Windows applications used CTL C and others used ALT C is a case in point).

Re: Watch this space

I do like that the Mac commands are more intuitive. Such as Cmd-Q vs Alt-F4 to Quit, and Cmd-R vs F5 to Refresh

I found the move (back) to Mac a few years ago to be quite painless.

That being said, a lot of a system's ease of use is based around what you use most often.

I'm now using both which has resulted in absolutely dismal skills with each :(
