Made any travel mistakes lately?

I've been very forgetful recently.

Booked Accor Hotel in Sydney and forgot to book through Cashrewards. Room rates have now increased so not worth changing.

Just booked a car through Rentalcars for June trip. No confirmation yet. Realised that Rentalcars is on cash rewards at 5.60% cashback for next 2 days. Can't cancel booking as it's not yet confirmed. Silly right? Wonder if it's worth booking another car now on Rentalcars via Cashrewards and then cancel first booking when it's confirmed?

What do you mean by not confirmed? I booked one in Mauritius recently and it said that the agency will confirm - they never did, but when I rocked up to collect they were ready for me and good to go (and even waited for my 2.5 hour delayed flight). So if you have the booking e-mail and you're waiting for the confirmation...... then just cancel and rebook.

They need to get confirmation from rental company in Thailand. QEEQ does this and looks like Rentalcars does this as well. Usually within 24 hours. Possibly a Thailand thing only.

Note one time QEEQ cancelled my booking as they could not get confirmation of availability and I had to rebook.

Booked a specialty train from Nagano to Karuizawa...before noticing the arrival time means I will miss the last bus to the next destination!
Need to cancel, they are not responding to my email! Might have to write another one in (bad) Japanese...

Now Rentalcars is 10% on Cashrewards for next 3 days until 29 March.

Think the Honda HR-V is now confirmed so can cancel the $327 booking and new rate is $334 with 10% cashback from Cashrewards makes this a cheaper booking so no longer a travel mistake. Or is it?

Depends if the cashback tracks and pays out properly. It doesn't always...

LOL. Don't ever try to be cheeky.

Cancelled Rentalcars booking successfully.

Went to make a new Rentalcars booking via Cashrewards and entered credit card details and instead of confirmation screen received screen with your booking has been cancelled.

Went to make another Rentalcars booking via Cashrewards and this time 28 Degrees wanted to verify purchase and after entering pin receive insufficient funds message. Check Latitude and sure enough they have charged me or put a hold on 2nd amount but no booking confirmation. Rentalcars no online chat. Have sent them email.

Sometimes trying to save $15-$20 is not worth it. Well it is worth it if IT systems are not useless. Now twiddle thumbs or try yet another booking with yet another credit card.

Potential to be AirAsia all over again.

a late night
and needing to get onto the desktop version of QFF to book an ex-Athens flight to Paris
faffing around with demands for exact name on passport (which again is another quirk of the QFF registration system) and Business phone number (which I don't have) but eventually could wade through this step
and then completely overlooked the date was meant to be in June not July

well, you can imagine the annoyance
6,000 points cancellation fee

it took until the morning for the points to be refunded - and now await the CC refund
sighs

Couldn't cancel for free within the same day cancellation period? Or does that only apply to revenue bookings? Sorry, not familiar with QF's system.

Paying on my phone in the local cafe at the train station. Meant to use my Wise card and realised I’d used my AMEX. Luckily it was only five euros.

Check out of accomodation, drop key in key box, pull door shut, head to bus stop, realise still have one more night to stay. :( 🤬

After waiting 2 hours in nearby cafe with luggage, key back in hand.

Also posted in the WCMO thread, as boy, did that cheese me off!
You do know that it is possible to actually book a hotel for more than one night in a row?

When one's travel is often filled with status credit/tier point/mattress runs, the occasional double night stay can be a relief or indeed a luxury. 😂

It was actually a six night stay - even if I tried to make it five!

Forgot to take the black electrical tape to cover up the insanely bright LEDs in our hotel rooms in Vietnam and Cambodia. Of course when there I only thought of it at night in bed, not when I was out in the street near shops. One place had an on button on the AC which was like sleeping with the full moon in your room. I tend to sleep through anything myself but Mrs Warks is another matter. The tiniest red dot on the TV... Some TVs (TCL take note) have huge white lit logos when on standby. Usually you could just switch off at the point but the power was hard wired into the wall in one hotel, well concealed behind the wall mounting.

"travel departing outside of Australia" is excluded.

Being an award is not relevant, they can be refunded within 24 hours as long as routing commences in Oz.
To complete the refund

Yes it processed inside 24 hours and email notification was prompt

However, 4 days later and it’s now showing up on the CC statement

A 34 cent loss on the exchange rate
