Today, I made SG for the first time. I know it is not much compared to all the platinums around here, but it means a lot to me.

I have been bouncing between NB and PS for years. I have been a QP member for the last few years.

Today I went from 695 to 710 status credits with a flight from Sydney to Adelaide (the only 767 I have ever had on that route). I got a jump start this year with the double status credits promotion and, while I would almost certainly have made it to gold before my year end (31 May 2011), I took a JASA ADL-SYD-CBR and back to speed things up. Now I am wondering whether I should make an effort towards platinum. No real need, but I am contemplating family trips in Jan and April next year which (together with work domestic flights) will likely put me over 1000SC.

Interestingly, while I expected my QP membership to be put on hold, I am surprised there is no reference to it to be found in my status. I have about 7 months and a few days left, but I can't confirm that anywhere I can see.

Congrats! WP really comes in handy if flying to Europe on OW airlines.

Otherwise, I wouldn't really bother if you are spending your own dollars to get to WP.

Well done!! I remember hitting SG a couple of years ago. It certainly feels good!

I am currently driving towards WP and it is quite a bit to get there. You need to weigh up if it is worth it or not for the $$ outlay.

And yes your QP is put on hold as well. I have 13 months left on mine

I don't plan to make a special effort to get to WP, but will reconsider if I look to be getting close. I probably won't have the headstart next year that I have had this year.

Congrats Adam

Before I came across AFF I had struggled at SG for 5 years, comped a year or two, made it myself others ... did average a little over 600 SC's per year - I know what it's like.

Good luck for your future flights and happy travels ... :D

Congrats. I'm hoping to get there myself at the end of December.

As for WP, it really comes down to if you think you'll use it or not. There are loads of benefits (when flying) but to use them all you need to fly a lot all over the place ;)

Congrats on the achievement, Adam - you will get that next buzz when your new cards and tags arrive - probably the new ones as you have just qualified.

As for WP - well, I have enjoyed its priviliges for the past couple of years, and not all of them are mentioned in print anywhere - like having your partner's request for an up-grade from Y+ to J, when the plane was totally booked two days before, seemingly appear like magic - just a word to 1st Host in LHR if they could put into the system that we would like to fly together from Hong Kong, and then smile nicely!

Well done on making SG, may QF give you a double SC promo next April!

Congratulations - QP will go on hold. Earlier in the year I found out mine was on hold for 13 months when QF changed status display for a few weeks

Btw wish I would get a double status promo - having member status renewal at Jan doesn't seem to help

Congratulations! As mentioned WP is worth it for the unpublished benefits, but SG is still nice. If close next year I would look at some JASA's and keep your fingers crossed for the double SC promo. Enjoy!

Well done. Hopefully you can make this status last for many years to come.

Finally, someone else with January expiry. I hate it as well, because it can, and often does muck things up.

Thanks Princess Fiona and everyone else for your good wishes.

I have a big advantage of having a status date of 31 May. When I got the double SC promo this year, it straddled two status years. I didn't know enough to make use of it the for the previous year, but I had june to get a good head start on this year (work travel only, though).

If I am lucky enough to get it again, I will be able to make the most of it in two status years.

All the best for all other AFFers.

Cheers, Adam

Adam,

My congratulations firstly.

secondly it is a race with yourself and no one else!!! Your 'excitement' at your achievement means a lot to many members here as we have all been there. Every little bit helps.

Onwards and Upwards!!

Congatulations AdamR.

I still remember how excited I was when I first attained Gold in May 2006 after a whole lot of pointless flights between BKK-SIN helped me get there. That did not last long as a whole lot more pointless flights between BKK-SIN helped me attain Platinum by May 2007 and I have been there ever since.

Unless you are doing a lot of international trips there is really not a lot of difference between Gold and Platinum and the two seem to get closer with each "enhancement" from QF anyway.

I was also bouncing between QP Silver and just short of Gold for a number of years. Made WP because of this site! Ton of info here.

Seems like your "itch" has just begun. I agree with other posters on this site, that QF Gold seems to good enough. It gets you into OW Lounges when flying on other OW airlines, which is fantastic. Means you can hunt out good deals and still get lounge access on Int Routes, if in whY.

Now you made QF Gold, you can also apply for DJ Gold. So, a double win if you like.
