Hi,

I was wondering what others' thoughts are regarding magazines in the QP? At SYD and CBR the range of magazines in the QP (both Y and J lounges) seems to have dropped off. There used to be a wide range of the most popular magazines such as cars, gardening, wine, food, golf etc but this now seems to be much more restricted. Also, the magazines appear to be there more for promotional purposes.

On my most recent trip last month, I recall Top Gear, Masterchef a BBC food magazine - multiple copies of each. It's also not clear what the etiquette with these are, but I've been taking what I like home with me. Previously when they were in the clear plastic binders it was obvious you didn't pinch them, and some had QP stickers on them.

This change hasn't happened to the DRW QP, which had the usual range of various magazines last month.

I was at the ADL QP about two weeks ago and I too noticed the lack of choice in magazines.

When it is time to head to the gate I always leave the magazines behind.

I would think the problem is people taking the magazines home not leaving them behind. My observation is there is a good range for about one week a month until everyone steals the magazines.

I've been known to do a runner with a magazine every now and again...

[read: very occasionally and whenever I do, I feel like a very - very - naughty boy]

I've taken magazines, but I also return them the next week when I'm back in the lounge. Take, read, return. Although sometimes I transfer them from SYD to ADL.

Sometimes i've left them on the plane or given them to the flight attendants.

Also agreed that the quantity & variety has been diminished in all lounges QF & many others & on board.. this is a sad but realistic reality.. It appears that some certain element of passengers are being greedy &/or selfish by 'taking" for keeps the offerings of reading material.. Also from my observations the airlines have reduced their budgets & are offering lesser quantities, thus the resulting factor.. I find that quality asian & euro lounges have the most generous varieties.. :D

Taken a couple, but usually when the front indicated its free. I see newspapers as something you can take due to how many there are, and also at every gate, but not magazines generally. However the idea of taking a magazine to read and leave in the next lounge is quite a novel idea. I'd definitely do that in the future, just for fun haha.

Seem to be quite a number of mags in the BNE J right now...

Spinning this thread off as is often done, I'd like to see codes given in the lounge for downloading special promo mags on the iPad. Giving out completely free whole issues might be a bit rich, but smaller teaser ones that you can then put in your newsstand would certainly reduce the amount of mags that go missing.

Oh but Sam.. You are definately in a different tier in the J lounge as compared to the QP! Thus offerings should be of a 'glossier" variety.. :D
