Main Cabin Extra LA - Auckland

Hi.

I'm relatively new flying AA and have a question on long haul main cabin extra.

I am OW Emerald so my understanding is that I can book a main cabin extra seat on purchase(?)

I have a travel companion who has no status and is traveling on a (Y) QF award seat. Is there any way that I can book her into MCE? I understand the AA website states that companions on the same reservation have complimentary MCE selection. Has anyone had any experience getting a pax on a different reservation the same seating choices?
