Making an extra 6000-8000+ points by connecting a step tracker

Not sure what product it was exactly, but a couple of years ago there was some QF Life Insurance Policy a few of us on here signed up for that gave some points (20,000 - 30,000 maybe?). Cancelling after 3 months with the minimum payment of something like $10/mth was easy points. There would be a thread on here somewhere with the details.

By churning I mean that Qantas Health offer a bonus for signup and I believe I have seen similar on other health insurance (NIB?) for Velocity, so you'd signup for Qantas Health, once you have your bonus transfer to the other offer. Rinse and repeat.
 
Also, if you're driving somewhere, before you set off, go into your phone health/fitness app and start a cycling activity (not sure if FitBit does this as well). It'll record distance and give points accordingly.
That's brilliant, I will have to give that a try. When our young one grew out of her baby swing, I used to put my fitbit on there and just leave it rocking for a while. It worked, but I quickly learned that the investment in D cell batteries would not work out in my favour financially and gave it up.
 
if you need the points and already have QF Insurance then go ahead. Personally, I found the drain on my battery of having GPS on all the time to track my steps to be too annoying.
FYI step tracking doesn't use GPS.

I go to the gym and jump on the elliptical and steps are tracked.
No idea how accurate but I don't care, nice easy way to pick up points and keep QFF activity going.

The problem is that you generally have to pay a decent premium to get a decent bonus, and you'd never be able to use the policies as you'd never sit through the required waiting periods. You'd still ultimately be paying directly for the points in premiums I would have thought?

Most policies waive waiting periods you are transfering from an equivalent policy (as I am), e.g. Qantas Health states "Waiting periods already served for comparable services will be recognised".

As far as premium, I'm assuming you are actually in the market for Health Insurance so am only looking at incremental costs vs my current insurer not the full costs.

Got it. I'm actually not in the market myself as it's fully paid for by my employer, so I didn't know that the portability rules would cover all waiting periods including the federally mandated ones. Seems like a no-brainer (for anyone but those in my situation, that is).
 
I've been on the WellBeing App now for around 18 months and received 67K QF FF points. The majority of these (circa 50K) have come from transferring my private health insurance across to Qantas Health (aka NIB Health).

Reduced rate points earning:
1000 Daily Steps = 0.4 Points
2000 Daily Steps = 0.6 Points
4000 Daily Steps = 0.9 Points
6000 Daily Steps = 1.2 Points
8000 Daily Steps = 1.5 Points
10000 Daily Steps = 1.8 Points
12000 Daily Steps = 1.9 Points
14000 Daily Steps = 2 Points
16000 Daily Steps = 2.1 Points
20000 Daily Steps = 2.2 Points

I've used it for a couple years now, not a big points earner but each week points post to my account keeping the activity ticking over.

Ok so after I fixed my app issues, my first day panned out with 341 points.

it is clear i have 27 days left on my trial and I actually got 15pts for the 8000 steps. Looking at above, that means it will go down from 15pts to 1.5.

Yes, I can assure you that is the case, you will get 1 tenth of the points after the trial (next to nothing, expect around 11-18 points a month for someone who does moderate movement and engages in the friend challenges, but remember that this requires updating the app every night to ensure you hit a target).

It is a lot of work for a small amount of points, but I do legitimately track my workouts so it doesn't bother me, it is also great for keeping my wife's account active as credit cards and shopping points generally go to mine.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it before, but this app would be a great and free tool for those people who do a post about how they're about to lose their points and need an emergency top-up.
 
Good points boost for now, but won't be worth a lot when it goes down to 0.5 points. Unfortunately on my wife's phone it has not detected that it has the permissions it needs, so she isn't getting these points while I am.
 
I am currently on Bupa. For a similar plan with Qantas, it was $40 a month more.

Needless to say, I am still on Bupa.
 
You can now earn points while you sleep. 5 points will be awarded every morning. Way more profitable than doing 20,000 steps.

I like the idea and this may work for some people, but since this was launched two weeks ago I've never been able to make my sleep target!

If you're a true frequent flyer, you're probably going to be travelling and working across multiple time zones and constantly jet-lagged, so this is not all that practical.
 
Probably true for most features of the app in my experience @Mattg. The step target is based on your local timezone which can be very strange on long distance travel, for example I've often had to change my step target before I fly because the timezone change means I'll cross midnight during the flight.

Sometimes because the destination timezone is so different to the original timezone, I'll get a day and a half to complete steps on the first day and only half a day on the second day.

I'm not even sure why I bother since it's so few points but I like that it gives me a distraction and something to entertain me during times of sheer boredom, and maybe even an incentive to be a bit more active. Great for airports, I often easily get 10K walking between gates in larger terminals.

Yes, the health benefits are obvious but the financial benefit to the insurer outweighs the 2 points per day.

Most importantly they can now assess changes to your lifestyle, location changes, steps, routes, job changes, when you are sick, when you have health problems (ie Mattg didn't exercise all this month. Cross reference to QF, hmmm no flights, that's weird. Let's access his myhealth record and check.)

This is a major sellout and I implore people to realise how cheaply they are selling out their privacy.

Yes, the health benefits are obvious but the financial benefit to the insurer outweighs the 2 points per day.

Do you use this app? I suspect you don't, because if you did you'd be much more at ease. It's a very poorly designed advertising platform that does not reflect reality in any way. You have to actually intervene manually to make the app take any sort of measurement, it's capability to do anything independently is poor, very poor.

What it does is makes me look at a Qantas Assure ad every time I load the app up, which is several times a day. It is permanent mindshare, effectively. They are not my insurer, but they spruik their and their partner services to me in exchange for a trickle of points, and I take them, because ultimately it's a workable deal on my part.

Given it is linked to my QFF account, and I don't have an insurance policy for these guys, they know how much I coach the app to recognise I walked on days when I remember to do it, it's wildly inaccurate and if they tried to use the data in any meaningful way, it would be a massive mistake. I also credit my spending, Qantas Mall and flights to that same QFF and I can assure you (see what I did there) that that data is both 1000x more accurate and more useful to Qantas in terms of tracking my behaviour.
