Hi All,

Would anybody be able to confirm whether it is possible to check in early for a MH-operated flight sold as a QR codeshare? We are arriving into KUL on a separate (non-oneworld) ticket around 12 hours before the MH/QR flight, so expect to need to collect our bags and check in again.

We should be able to check in online 48 hours before the flight, so having a boarding pass should not be an issue. MH seem to offer all day bag drop (see here), but it's not clear if that would work if the flight is technically on a QR flight number.

If it is not possible, we'd probably book a day room for a few hours at an airport hotel.

Would appreciate any insights / experiences. Cheers.

Generally the.operating airline is who you check in with, OLCI or otherwise. I haven't checked bags with MH so can't advise on what's available at KUL.

At worst you could head to sentral on the espress and use in town check in there.

You could then look around KL for an hour or two before heading back.

You can get a return for MYR90 using the Espres app.

i do not see a reason why you cannot check in early for a MH operated flight (QR codeshare not withstanding).
it's the only place you will go to anyway come check-in time.

also dont think QR is on the KL Sentral check in list... OP would not be going to see QR anyway. So it's the MH counter and no reason why they cannot it at the airport...

Thanks for the replies. Haven't been through KUL in some time so not sure how the self check-in and bag drop systems work.

Part of my concern is that it is a QR PNR which the MH bag drop system might not accept (requiring manual staff intervention or going through desk check-in 3 hours before the flight).

But I'll see what happens and report back with our experience.

i would just go to the checkin desk irregardless.. there are manned and unmanned desks

You should be fine. Both MH and QR use Amadeus as their GDS.

MH is your operating airline, so as also indicated by @ermen you check in with them.

As you indicated KLIA 1 Self Service check in is open 24 hours before your flight:

If the PNR does not work in the kiosks, there will be counter assistance available.
