After much "nagging" or "encouragement" I have decided to do a TR because the new guidelines for only one or two photos in the View from my office thread

I do have a reputation for starting and not finishing TR so we will see how it goes

I will do Sicily first then go back to Malta

This all started when I was offered some work in the UK and I was keen to get away from the Adelaide summer so everything is very last minute

I flew Qatar direct ADL DOH LHR and had a couple of days in London then a couple of days near Cambridge with friends..

Back to London then to Malta for 7 nights and Ortigia for 4 nights Taormina for four nights,

The thing I'm very excited about is I'm catching the train from Taormina to Milan which takes 19 hours and goes on a ferry, One of the few left in the world that does that, I have a private cabin with shower and toilet but have been warned that I may not get any water out of the shower,

In Milan I have a ticket to see the last supper then fly back to the UK.

As in my nature I then have about a week where I have no idea what I'll be doing but it's not a busy time of the year so I'm not fussed,

Good to book ahead in Milan. When I went to see it the first day, the guard said “l’ultima cene è finito!”.

Afterwards, go for lunch at Peck! https://peck.it/en

I have booked a very cheap hotel in Milan. I was going to stay at the Hilton again but it was booked out but because I’m a diamond they said I could have a room for only €460 but I passed on that. Even I don’t think I could drink that much in the executive lounge.

My ticket for the last supper is at 3:45 pm so I’ll see how I go.

Looking forward to following along.
I'm in the middle of my Sicily plannning and booking at the moment.
And I always love photos of anywhere.

I'm here. Cheers for starting!

Have a couple of Milan insta reels from
2023 if you didn't look back that far :).
I have been to Milan before. And the only reason I’m going this time is because I’m catching the train from Sicily to Milan and I’ve got a ticket to the last supper.

I fly back to London the day after.

Head office is there. I’m being indoctrinated for two weeks. 😝
The Titanic Museum is one of my Top 10 best places to visit.

Before I went if someone told me I would declare that in future I would have laughed.

Not just the historical aspects but the incredible architectural features of things like outdoor seats looking like …. Well outdoor seats. However, looking down on them from the upper levels of the building the length of each corresponds to Morse code of the distress signals… garden beds of various dimensions have meaning. Tiles outside the building seen from above are the countries the shipping line travelled.

I spent a whole day there amazed (tour guide a must).

I also like their strong message against the carpetbaggers still trying to grift from the tragedy and strong opposition to artefact hunting.
The modern day footage is located (not surprisingly in the bowels of the building).

White Lotus 2 is a great Sicily appetiser. See if you will be coinciding with a concert in the Taormina amphitheatre. Burt Bacharach played once when I was there

That is certainly on my list and will look at a tour guide. Thanks

My last 2c worth - you probably already know about the Minack Theatre in Cornwall but this is another in my Top 10.

WYKYK
In 1982 I was driving my Volkswagen Beetle around Cornwall and discovered the Minack. I’d always wanted to go to Cornwall after reading all the Daphne du Maurier books when I was a girl. As a side note I had been given a box set of her books and had lent them to a friend after she was recovering from a broken arm and her husband threw them all out. I’ve never forgiven him.

I saw a production of David Copperfield and it’s one of those memories that is etched in your brain of watching the sun set over the ocean watching a play.

I went back in 2017 and it had changed quite a lot. It even has a cafe now. I also went to Jamaica Inn in 2017 and it was so tacky I was so disappointed

I still think that I’d like to go back and see another performance. Sadly, this time I’m going to have to take my walking poles to get down the steps. Going up is a lot easier than coming down after a knee replacement.

I have checked and there’s nothing on while I’m here because it’s very much out of season. Even the hop on hop off buses and not operating. When I got to the station today, there was some Polish people who were quite adamant that they were catching the bus from the station but I don’t think so.

I am not a TV or movie person so I haven’t watched White Lotus but I may consider it later

Agree 💯 with Titanic Museum. Also a Black taxi tour of Belfast is worth doing. They cover the troubles, politics, etc plus some amazing murals.
