Malta

So, I just had a look at my TR on Malta. Conclusion :"Must go back!"

As it happens, I have a window of 6 days at the end of June, when I'm in France, after a cruise. I only want to go to Gozo, so currently am thinking of flying CDG - MLA on Air France, get the fast ferry from Valetta to Mgarr (Gozo), stay a night or two, then go back, probably another night in Valetta. Ideally fly back to Marseille, if I can talk myself into flying Ryanair.

I'm sure you've already found:

I was thinking maybe 5-7 days in Malta - I don't really want to be rushing. I want to see the sights but also have a bit of time sitting on a balcony looking over the sea reading my book and sipping a wine or coughtail or two
Defo at least 2 nights on Gozo.
This is the @RooFlyer mentioned.

Where did you stay? I think I want an apartment rather than a hotel so I can chill a bit
I can dig out ours as well, location was good and parking was as good as you can find in the area if you do have a car. We took the car on the ferry too for our time in Gozo. Also have some tips there if needed.

We were in Malta last April for a couple of days and loved it. One of our highlights was a visit to the ancient walled city of Mdina which long ago was the capital of Malta. The historic centre within the walls is beautifully preserved (and car free), and from the ramparts there are great views over the island. It was an easy bus ride from Valetta.

Also, the water taxi ride in one of the traditional small wooden boats that run across the harbour between Valetta and the Three Cities was wonderful and really cheap

Any tips gratefully received. I want to try and book the accommodation today. I don't think I'll get a car.

I hadn't thought about going to Gozo but will do some more research

I have amended my next trip in May to arrive in Malta.
I need to go to Scicily for a few days and this is the closest/easiest I have found on points. A short Ryan flight, either that night or the next day to CTA. ~100 Aussie.
I looked at the ferry too but that seemed more complex for no real benefit.

Thinking of staying in Three Cities for the night.

I had never really given the place much thought until about a week ago!

Interesting looking at lots of AirBnb in Malta and 95% don't have a dishwasher. Luckily I've found somewhere that does. I can't get my delicate little hands all wrinkly
Haha, I love washing a few dishes, keep the place clean.

For me though it is a clothes washing machine. I don't like taking dirty socks etc in my case the next day.

We dropped in on Malta for 4 nights in May 2023.
It was our "get over the flight and jet lag" location for that trip, so we were fairly relaxed about trying to see too much, however we did visit the Hypogeum (fascinating & book early), wandered Valletta, Mdina, and Sunday market at Marsaxlokk.

We stayed in Senglea in a small hotel "The Snop House" which was very comfortable and personalised.
Breakfast each day was basically continental style, but with daily variations of local interest.
We found several excellent restaurants along the waterfront.

There is usually a short ferry ride from Senglea to Valetta but we happened to stay when the harbour was too rough, so we took the bus, which was conveniently close the hotel. We never bothered with taxis as the buses were cheap and easy.

Edit - other than buses, the hotel did organise a car from / to airport for an agreed price which seemed reasonable

At the risk of being called all sorts of names, I would suggest that this one bedroom apartment is a very nice place to stay in the Valetta area' at Birgu, a very historical place with many interesting sites. Not to mention the ferry to Valetta and good bus connections and inexpensive Uber fares to the airport and elsewhere. So we won't dwell on that.

I know that many on this board would frown on such an inexpensive gem, but there we are.

Anyway, here we go:

Oh, and I should have mentioned it, I have actually stayed there. The booking.com photos are pretty accurate.

Thanks but I have already booked somewhere that I consider good value - a bit more than this but a great location and no stairs - post TKR I avoid lots of stairs if I have a choice

At quickest, you could do it in a day trip on the fast ferry and Uber around.

I'd also like Gozo tips @Flashback
I can pop over a dump of our itinerary (and secret parking spots!) if that's of use.

Gloves, VPS, gloves! ;)

A few spots worth checking out..... in no particular order. I had a good viewing spot up at a public park for the cannons firing etc., but for some reason can't find the exact spot we went up to.
On Gozo...
This isn't an exhaustive list..... but there's plenty more. It all depends on how much time you have.

Excellent thank you. I’ll be in Valetta at least 7 nights
