Manchester to charge 'tourist tax' on hotel stays

In some European cities (mostly Germany if I recall correctly) the night tax is for those whose purpose is tourism, and waived when the purpose is business. That is usually determined by ticking a box, a casual question asked by the check-in clerk or when the booking is made through a tourism operator. There's certainly no audit of the purpose. No big deal either way.

As someone with family there I’m biased but it’s a fantastic city not to mention home of the greatest sporting club in the planet 😝
Until I googled, I had not ever heard of the Manchester Giants ... but each to their own, I guess.

PS. I do have relatives living in Manchester (cousin and his family). I am reliably informed that he has heard of the Manchester Giants.

But we probably need to get back to the thread topic about the introduction of a tourist tax.
