Mandatory Photo ID for Domestic Air Travel? [Not mandatory but can be requested]

I'm all for photo ID on domestic flights, but...........................................
When I check in, they look at me, look at my photo ID and make a guess that we are the same person.
But where does the data go? Domestic check in has no links to any database (yet) for the data to be checked. With international travel, there are more security checks linked back to secure databases of peoples identity, records, etc.
Do we take it that domestic check in will link to these databases?
With international travel, all the ID is done on an international document - a passport.
For domestic check in, what will we use? Drivers licence? What if you don't have one? Proof of age card - not compulsory to have one. What other form of photo ID is available which can link to a security database?
Like I said, I'm all for it, but I am having trouble working out how it can be effective as a security measure, rather than just an ID verification.
Ot is that all it's going to be? Just ID verification which won't stop anyone.

Just out of interest... why are you 'all for it' if you can't see any benefits?

Having check-in perform some sort of ID check could be detrimental rather than beneficial. Check-in agents have no power to detain anyone, so as soon as they say 'please wait here' the offender immediately legs it.

The only point where any sort of ID is checked against any database is when passing through exit immigration. The airline does not check any database. The only reason the airline even cares about checking passports is to make sure the people flying have the needed paperwork to enter the country they are flying to, because if they don't and transport someone who doesn't have the needed visa, etc, they get fined and have to transport the person back when they are deported.
As for domestic, do you really think the AFP and other law enforcement agencies are going to give private companies access to their criminal databases?

If what you said did happen, then it has achieved something! That's good.
That's why I'm for it.
But I'd prefer it actually did more and actually identify "persons of interest" if they are going to go to all this work.
And yes, you make a good point about check in staff not being able to do very much, other than ring the AFP.
