Intercity Flights
Douglas DC-6 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Having discussed options with a few people, it would seem that there is a reasonable amount of interest in a flight from Essendon Airport to Hobart International () Airport -- why not turn it in to a DO? Here's what I'd like to propose:

  • Arrange permission with work/SWMBO to take the Thursday off
  • If interstate, arrange for a flight that arrives in to MEL that morning
  • Group lunch somewhere? in the city
  • Some mode of transport from the CBD to MEB
  • Fly in style from MEB down to HBA
  • Early dinner somewhere nice? in the city
  • Back out to the airport for a flight back to the mainland (JQ/DJ both have reasonably timed options)
  • Alternatively, stay the weekend and explore Hobart

I'm also tempted to propose that we all dress for the occasion, as flying in ones' "Sunday Finest" was the done thing in the 1950's and 1960's!

Things to work out:
  • When would payment for the flight MEB-HBA be required?
  • Where to have lunch?
  • Where to have dinner?

Let me know if I've missed anything .. if you're interested in attending, please respond! :)

Am also happy to arrange lunch and dinner reservations closer to the date, so will also be interested in any preferred dining establishments and/or any dietary requirements/prejudices.

I'm certainly keen on this.. Day off work won't be an issue.

Unsure whether to take Friday off as well and stay overnight.

Count me in for the flight though! There are some fantastic restaurants in HBA, especially seafood!!

Ooh, sounds fun.

Yes, definitely interested. I might even follow Nick's lead and stay Friday (or even longer and fly back home over the weekend). Getting the time off won't be an issue either.

Any idea on cost, but yes I am interested.

I just flew 9404 miles one way to go on a charter flight in the US and this whole trip has cost me over $4,000.

Ok found the cost $460.00, a bargain.

The MEL-HBA is about $400 one way. A taxi ride from MEL to Essendon is about $25.

You have the makings of a MC ad there! :D

I’m interested, but my finances are a lot less than most and I’m hoping to be employed next year, probably even on Thursdays ;)

But I heard you are taking a sick day on Thursday 26 May 2011, supposedly.:p

Certainly tempting!

However, SWMBO and I are finishing our ex AKL RTW the (long Labour day) weekend straight after that so I'll need to give it a miss. :-|

Its a pity the Airport West Tram line does not have the old trams on it, I would have thought a tram ride from the city to MEB would be an appropriate appetiser for a ride in a DC6

Wish it was earlier in the week, might have been tempted to hang around after the airshow!

Sounds tempting but finances are a little low and Thursday is a bad day with no available sick leave.

Ouch!
