Marriott hotels in Melbourne, which to choose? (W vs Sheraton vs Le Meridian vs Westin)

There are quite a few Marriott hotels in Melbourne nowadays, especially with the opening of the W and Le Meridian hotel. Has anyone stayed in them and can comment which hotel they prefer? I've got Titanium status so a lounge is a plus also.

Have stayed in Sheraton and W.

Looking forward to trying Le Meridian.

Sheraton and Le Meridian are in better location IMHO in the Paris End / Theatre district which is where I like to hang.

W is halfway between Paris and New York district, so not in a ‘bad’ location but I prefer being closer to the East end and all the restaurants and bars around there.

Sheraton is a a little older but still well maintained. Very quiet well sound proofed. Close to lots of good food places.

W I found a little plasticy / tacky (same for all of them really) but still comfortable and a solid option.

I'm looking forward to trying Le Meridien.

I enjoyed the Sheraton and found the location excellent. W is nice and the 24/7 pool is great, but the change room / shower area is a let down, and the location is a bit of a no man's land in terms of that part of the CBD.

Yrs ago I used to prefer the Southbank hotel now called the Langham (previously the Sheraton) in part because it was only 2-3 sets of traffic lights from the Tullamarine freeway.. Westin is a great location, up Flinders lane to plenty of food n drink, across the street to CBD shopping, but as with most central Melb hotels, not easy to come & go to Tulla..

I’d suggest Westin is not the greatest of locations for next 18 months while they finish the new metro underground…

was there earlier this year - that huge construction shed does block the view somewhat but noise was negligible

I've stayed at Westin and Sheraton - like them both - though do prefer Westin just that little bit more. They're both well-located to the office in MEL. Haven't tried the other two yet.

Got a surprise upgrade which was a genuine upgrade last time I stayed - though checked in on a Tuesday so that might explain it as I'm a lowly Gold and get that "status" from my Amex.

We stayed at the Docklands Marriott a couple of times. Not so centrally located, but easy to get into town on the tram (free of course) and the property is not too stingy to operate a lounge, which along with the lower rate was why we stayed there. Great staff in the lounge too.

Update: stayed at Le Meridien Melbourne.

Exceptional location in the Paris district.

Lovely new hotel. Amazing pool. Quiet rooms very well insulated. Great food and coffee.

One massive miss - the beds are rock hard. Probably actually one of the hardest beds I’ve ever slept on. I’m a side sleeper so I really felt it.

Second miss - no proper office chair in room to be able to do work.

Did you happen to ask for a ‘proper’ chair for your room to work from? If so, what was the answer?

I didn’t ask about the chair sorry.

I did complain about the bed and they actually replied and said they ‘are working on a solution’ which I don’t know if it was just lip service or they have had other complaints and genuinely are looking to fix….

It was like a slab of concrete, no joke!

Has anyone tried both Le Meridien and Pullman City Centre? We are going to Melbourne later next month (4 of us as family), and I have nailed down between these two properties. We will most likely have breakfast at the hotel as well.

I stayed in the Le Meridien last time I was there (a month or so back) and to be honest I think I prefer the Marriott (Cnr of Exhibition and Lonsdale).

Aside from LM trying to charge me for $80 worth of mini bar stuff I didn't have, I find the staff much better at the Marriott and as I've used that one more often, I get a reasonable upgrade for my lowly Gold status

I ended up staying at LM Melbourne at the end. The hotel is newer and more classic feel. The breakfast was great and also Qantas Hotels gave me 3k points + 10k bonus as part of their promo. Will definitely stay, at LM Melbourne again.

Stayed at Le Meridien, lovely location and hotel but yes agree with others the beds are incredibly hard.

I spoke to the manager, they are aware of it - it’s a known issue and you can order mattress toppers and housekeeping will come and put it on your bed for you…. Good tip I thought I would pass on.

Much prefer the Sheraton bed and will probably stay there next time.
