I regularly fly QF1506/QF822 HBA-MEL-CBR. QF1506 has an 1835 arrival into MEL. QF822 has always had a 1915 departure from MEL (0:40 transit) but due to some schedule changes later in the year QF822 will now be departing MEL at 1905. That gives me an 0:30 transit. My bookings still appear fine (although I get a warning about the connection time being short when I go to select seats), but I note that if I try to book these same flights again the booking engine won't let me.

My question is is this 0:30 transit still within the MCT at MEL and will QF still be responsible for getting me to CBR if I miss my MEL-CBR flight due to a late inbound? (I ask this noting that QF822 is almost always punctual but QF1506 often isn't!)

If I'm reading this correctly, then according to EF MCT is 40mins QF/QF at T1.

If its the same pier, then its an easy walk.
But even if on the other pier, its not that far a walk.
More worried if a fault or something from the Tas flight puts you late into MEL.
Very hard to tell if the Tas arrival QF flight will come into the QF pier near where the JQ flight (at the moment) comes and departs from, or the other QF pier, closer to MEL int T2.
I have had a MCT of 45 mins, ADL - MEL - CBR, had to spend only 20 mins in the QP. Sat 29F, should have chosen 11F or so.
Do OLCI, for the HBA - MEL flight, pick to sit up closer to front of plane, and hopefully you make it.
Ideally, yes, if all goes to plan, but things can go pear shaped.

If all flights on the same ticket you'll be protected and QF will have to re-accommodate you on a later flight.

I did a dummy flight booking, for the first week, 04 Nov 15, and QF only gives me flights from HBA to reach MEL at 14.45 for 16.15 or so, or 14.45 for the 18.20 flight MEL to CBR.
Even for SYD, it does not list an arrival time into SYD at 16.55 for that short a connection, its an arrival from HBA at 14.20.

Thanks, yeah it's usually ok because I OLCI, have no checked baggage, sit near the front, and both flights are in the same pier.

Ok thanks, that's the bit I was concerned about. It's all on the same ticket. QF822 is the last MEL-CBR flight of the day so I assume I'd be rebooked on the one in the morning and provided with hotel etc?

Thought you might all appreciate an update on this - I spoke to QF about this today.

They advised that because the connection is under the MCT, I'm on my own if there's a misconnect (even though it wasn't under the MCT when it was booked). No transfers/hotels/etc.

If all on the one ticket then Qantas should rebook you free of charge onto flights that do meet MCT.

If you choose to remain with your flights then you are on your own should you misconnect.

I'm curious, what hotels do QF and other airlines use in MEL in the case of a overnight misconnect? Do you get different accommodation based on class of service and status?

The only two forced overnights I've had were with BA at LHR, which put us in the Sheraton Heathrow (poor reviews but fairly close to Terminal 5) and AA in DFW, which put us in a Wyndham at least 20 minutes drive from the airport!

I suspect airlines are too cheap to fork out for the Parkroyal connected to the airport, but where else could they send people at MEL? The Holiday Inn?

Spent the night in MEL once due to the last flight of the day being cancelled and I was sent to the ibis on Therry St. Quite nice and an enormous room for the grand total of five hours I spent in it.

I get the impression that they had a bunch of hotels they were sending people to (needed to accommodate an entire plane-full of pax). Not sure what the others were though.
