Medibank Breach - Compromised Velocity Accounts Locked

I was going to ask this elsewhere but now in this thread. Why are the hackers releasing the info on the 'dark web'? If they want to put pressure on Medibank, or punish them for not paying, why would they not release it on the open web for everyone to see?

Of course most folks have lost very little of real substance, it's just the threat of exposure and the invasion of privacy.
Folks who have suffered materially are those who purchased shares in the last 18 months and are now suffering substantial paper losses .
Rooflyer.. the kind of people who would use info like this also inhabit dark places...

Received this today from MP via email. Not happy at all! I have added my name to the Class Action group. My loss of privacy has a cost !

Understand, but they would also inhabit the regular web. If its been posted on the dark web, I assume its not been on-sold so only of value as pressure on or punishment of, Medibank, which would be greater if the selected bits were openly available.

There seems to me multiple class actions in the wind. Did you register with multiple or how did you choose one?

I got the email yesterday as well.

I don't mind data breaches. Good luck getting credit. Hoping some scammer can pay off my debt.

On a serious note though this is starting to get beyond belief. Very poor handling of personal data.

I joined Medibank during a flybuys promotion. So presumably that’s on the dark web too.

Me too - APPALLED these cowboys retained all my data for an eternity after I moved on, just waiting to be hacked. Hopefully they send us a few $100s cheque to settle, and teach ALL corporates a valuable lesson -- this lazy data storage is NOT ON in 2022. :(

If the Medibank CEO was voted a $2 MILLION bonus today for being totally asleep at the wheel, while his amateur and insecure system was hacked of millions of personal details, they clearly do not care. He is lucky to still have a job.

Did anyone else get the ‘how we doin’ email today from MP? Not in relation to the hack (have not heard a word in a week) but their product in general😂😂😂
Maybe they have amnesia

Corporate amnesia is quite common..........closely related to the 'ostrich', 'head in the sand' and 'kick the can down the road' family of diseases.
