Was a very enjoyable night.

Manu thanks to v8Ststesman for being my taxi to & from the venue and nice to meet Bundy Bear in his new home state.

It was a good night, great to catch up with QF WP again, it has been a while, all of 10 days since we last saw each other at another FT gathering, also nice to see a few of the locals.

It's something I started to get the community together - feel free not to participate. Yes, I did buy most their first drink.

It seems to me like you may be taking the thread title a bit too literally. I'd suggest that QF WP used that fairly loosely as just something to call the thread; it doesn't imply anything more than a social gathering.

I have met two of them, plus admin, now. And nice people they are too, so thanks to QF WP for his enthusiasm in fostering this . Damn - I bought my own first drink because I was first there .

It was a very pleasant night and, in true AFF style, there was plenty of travel info, tips and tricks flying around.

Perhaps this is the answer I was looking for. I understand the social gatherings and such as events. Train trips or Xmas parties are events I understand. The 'Meet a Moderator' title sounded like an attempt to elevate it to something else. Since QF WP has invited me to not participate, then I'll accept that advise.

Please don't do that. I am sure that there has been a simple misunderstanding both ways. QF WP is a very engaging and generous gentleman and very enthusiastic in promoting meeting other AFFers. The joys of cryptic text.... Are you in PER?

Certainly the joys of cryptic text - one tends to be brief when posting with iDevices/Smartphones. That can lead to the wrong impession.

What QF WP likely meant with "feel free not to participate" was along the lines of "you are quite welcome to attend if you would like and it would be good to meet you. If you can't then maybe next time ...."

Am i correct in assuming that QF WP is the same person I had dinner with in Northbridge a few years ago with Cove, Straightman etc?

Yes Reggie we were young then. Between the lot of us we made plans to fly in better style at the lowest possible cost.
You guessed it.
We succeeded and we spread the good news at drinks and dinner nights.
I think I have been with 3 moderators in the past 12 months and you learn things that improve your style of travelling.

Yes, unlike over East we don't tend to organise stand alone dinner or drinks events here in Perth and so usually base get togethers around when QF WP or someone from over East is flying into town as a chance for a drink and some good chats/swapping stories/hints and tips... I think the way you asked that sounded somewhat dismissive hence QF WP's response although perhaps you didn't mean it that way, as stated easy to have misunderstandings on the web... I haven't met the other mods but QF WP is always interesting and engaging, so if you are from Perth you should try to come along to one such dinner/drinks opportunity...
