Hi all,

Looking to catch up with someone in London. Usually I'd fly there, but rather over the return trips. We also only have a week, so the less connections / travel time the better. I'm more flexible on my end though.

So we're looking to find somewhere in the middle - or as close to it as possible.

Thoughts of location are: Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Beijing / HK, Sri Lanka, Thailand.

Deets:
Her:
  • coming from London - so either LHR or gatwick
  • Needs to be at work on the 20th of Dec
  • Arrives back from a trip into LHR around 4pm Sunday 13th, otherwise can head back to the airport when ever suits
  • No loyalty

Me:
  • Leaving from Brisbane
  • Happy to transit to other domestic terminal if needed
  • QFF SG, would prefer oneworld and QF if possible - have met my quota for retaining SG, so don't mind otherwise

Travel window is from Sunday 13th to Sunday 20th
I'm able to travel outside of those times though

Would really appreciate any guidance, and obviously happy to pay for it.

I guess the aim here is to find somewhere in the middle, that isn't too shabby, and at a reasonable price.

Many thanks.

Flights to most destinations at this time of year, especially at such short notice are looking quite expensive. Especially out of Australia.

The options I would be looking at are Bangkok, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Manila, Colombo or the Maldives (Male). I would rule out mainland China at this late stage as you will need a visa.

From London, the cheapest flights around that time are to Bangkok. For example, she could fly London to Bangkok on Thai Airways, leaving in the evening from LHR on 13 Dec and arriving back in London around 6am on 20 Dec for 524 pounds.

From Australia, most airlines are charging well in excess of $1000 at this stage for flights into Asia. You may want to look at flying Scoot out of the Gold Coast to Singapore. That would cost $828++ on your dates. From Singapore you could fly an airline like Tigerair or Air Asia to Bangkok or other destinations.

Thinking outside the box, you may also want to consider destinations like South Africa, Hawaii or west coast USA. I haven't checked any prices for these destinations but something to consider.

Also, do you have any frequent flyer points?
