MEL Dom. lounges refurb Completed October 2018

You need to get out more. I can think of a lot of airports that beat Canberra hands down for "dullness & droll-nesses" :)
Heathrow Terminal 3, Melbourne T3, Coolangatta. Nothing against those places, just their airports
The thing about Melbourne T3 is that you can still do some quality plane watching, and you can at least wander out of the terminal. But as far as terminals go, yeah it’s the dressy utilitarianism of CBR as well.
And although I lived for 10 years in Bris, I haven’t been to Coolangatta since it was little more than a glorified shed.

Try Split. Worst airport ever. People stopped the escalators just to find a place to sit. It was packed.

CBR is open and spacious, lots of natural light, tarmac and gate views, clean, comfortable, relaxed and easy to navigate. Plenty of seats, unobtrusive shops, nice lounges and good staff everywhere.

Ticks most boxes for me.

I could imagine that happening at FCO too.

Looks like the thread has gone into tangent land.
I haven’t derailed a thread like this since I mentioned condensed milk on TripAdvisor once. It wasn’t intentional then either, but that discussion is still going after 9 month.
Oooof. Yes. FCO. It makes Melbourne’s immigration circus look positively organised.
Now back to J Melb. I’m pretty keen on using it this December. Has anyone done a walkthrough video?

Geeyou want to rate Capital city airports for being bad? I submit CBR, specially since the new terminal renos some years back so coughs all over IAD (Dulles) it's not funny. Cramped, low ceilings, amusingly annoying people mover truck things between concourses, and it's just a terrible place.

and slightly back on topic, but the UA lounges there... make a QF regional lounge look like heaven!!! (I know there are other airline loiunges there of course)

I'm becoming more and more unimpressed by the new QP. No tarmac views is just the beginning. It seems little thought was given to the seating as often one has to awkwardly share one of the small tables with a stranger in busier times. Also I feel the staff struggle to clean up plates and glasses in busier times as everyone is effectively squeezed into a corridor on the main part of the lounge. As for the slop...
Is it a perverse incentive by Qantas to aim for platinum?

I think Virgin's lounge in Melbourne now is the better lounge, regardless of the Neil Perry dining 'experience'.

MrP was asking why they just don’t serve party pies. Would be an easy thing. I guess some would take a heap leaving the plate bare. At least slop looks like it is an offering.

I think that's the whole idea. Downgrade the QP experience and upgrade the J lounge experience. For this reason, I for one was not excited at the prospect of an F lounge in SIN ... the current lounge offering will only head in one direction for non-WP's/F pax.

Probably cost too much :p:)

That truly says something given party pies are just slop encased in pastry :)
It always amuses me when people scoff at a Pig Organ Soup when in Asia, yet shove pig organs in some pastry and gravy and we Aussies will buy one from a random stop on the highway.

Nope. I only eat Vilis pies. Beef only. But when I’m calling slop here, it’s usually a case of search for anything of substance in a dish of liquid.

How is that pig organ soup prepared? Has it been sitting in the sun all day? Some people can get very sick.

Some pies are actually quite good.

Has he not seen SYD Dom J come 3pm when the PP's are put out? speaking of pig organs, it's like pigs to the trough sometimes (specially with the beers just up the other end of the serving area!)

I do agree it's simple and a staple everyone can(well, except vego ) can and do enjoy.

Remember the days when they promised things like mini pizza and other such comfort foods? lol

Well last nights chicken laksa was appreciated by MrP. Quite spicy it was and went down well with a G&T.

I have never seen pig organ soup ingredients sitting in a sun all day personally, but I am sure it has happened somewhere. Mind you remember the ‘Big Ben Pies’ scare from ages back, where some folks got really sick?

BTW best Pig Organ soup I have ever had came from Tiong Bahru Market in Singapore. I highly recommend it. The shop is nothing to look at, but the food is to die for.
Just not literally, thanks.
