MEL-JFK Biz Class & Now Eyeing Europe – Too Ambitious?

I originally booked some really well-priced business class flights from MEL-JFK for April this year, with the idea of spending around six days in NYC, a few in Washington, and then heading to Mexico for about nine days.

However, with some enticing points redemptions popping up from NY to UK/Europe, we’re now seriously considering a change of plans:
  • 5 nights in NYC
  • Flying to London (instead of Washington/Mexico)
  • Around 13 nights in the UK/Europe (likely London, Paris & Dublin)
  • Flying back to JFK from Dublin on a solid points redemption
  • Home from JFK as originally planned
Given that getting to Europe from Australia is usually a 24-hour slog, the idea of a 7-hour transatlantic hop is very appealing. But I’m wondering if this plan is too ambitious or totally doable.

Would love to hear thoughts from fellow FF's, particularly on whether this routing makes sense, any tips, and whether anyone has done something similar!

Thanks in advance!

Looks perfectly good to me. I know from experience that April is a great time to visit Europe: the weather is warming up, daylight saving has started so sunset is 8pm-ish, and it’s not yet peak season so the crowds are manageable. Also, because it’s not yet peak (Summer) season, reward flights are relatively easy to come by. I particularly enjoyed springtime in Paris and the French countryside the last time I was there in April. In fact it was beautiful. Just be prepared for cold weather if need be. I’ve been in Scotland in April and one week it was 20 degrees C, the next week we were caught in a blizzard!

Totally doable in my opinion. Of course you’d be giving up Washington DC and Mexico, but if you’re willing to pay that price, go for it!

Of course it makes sense. But only you can decide which course of action you want to take.

I think personally it depends if you guys have been to DC before or not. Getting there is a long journey and if you're already nearby a trip there for a day or two might make sense (and then Europe).

If you've been before then no need and go to Europe.
